I'm sure it's been posted but this thread moves too fast to keep up. Flames are speculated to be interested in Schenn to fill out the D. I'm for that as he's better than Stone. 3rd round pick, maybe?

Let’s get all those ex-Leafs!
Luke Schenn! James Van Riemsdyk!
I imagine Schenn returns a 2nd round pick (maybe +). He’s won a Stanley Cup, plays that gritty style of playoff hockey - those players always return more than they should.

I’m not so sure about JVR, but he actually might not cost a whole lot. Plus we can fit his entire cap hit, so the team trading him to us doesn’t even need to hold on to the cap.
Depending on the price, we can slot him into the line with Huberdeau and Kadri.

I’m pretty onboard with JVR.
Familiarity with Kadri. Big body, good net front presence, good shot.

I thinkni prefer taking a shot at Puljujarvi over acquiring JVR. At least there'd be a chance at a long term opportunity with a young player.
I firmly believe he'd blossom under Sutter.

I think Flames most definitely need to replace Stone on D, he has not been near the level that you need your 6th D to bring if you are aiming to make a dent in the playoffs. He is fine as the guy who comes in and plays some games but we can't go into playoffs with him as a regular. So this trade for dman can be done at any point, something like a 3rd round pick.
I would prefer if Flames did not trade for another forward up until a couple of days before the deadline. Flames have 12 games before the trade deadline and that should be more than enough games to see if Pelletier can take the top 9 slot, preferably along side Huberdeau. I would not mind JVR as he will improve our powerplay but even if he joins the team, we still have the same issue with having Huberdeau not be as effective as he needs to be.
If Huberdeau is not our best or second best forward going into the playoffs, I do not see much point in making the playoffs. Our main goal before the deadline is to find a linemate for Huberdeau that fits his style. I definitely think Pelletier can be that player but the question is if he can be that player right away.

I bet Oilers also know that is a possibility and would rather not trade him to their biggest rival.

We could definitely use another hitter back there.

I'm all for getting Schenn if the price is right.
Essentially Sutter would deploy him in the same way he deployed Gudbranson which would be great to help in stabilizing the 3rd pairing.
Not interested in JVR unless the price is very low and there is retention on his deal.

I don’t want the Flames to acquire anyone at the deadline. The Flames are 9th in points percentage. Keep the picks!

I don't. The snot licker has no hockey IQ at all..if McDavid can't fix him than Sutter sure as hell ain't.

The bolded statement makes no sense at all. Has McDavid ever "fixed" anyone? Sutter on the other hand has a coaching career filled with improving a players game.

Tons of players have had trouble playing with ultra talented players.
I also don't think that he is suited for a run and gun type of game.
Pool Party would imo probably better suit a Sutter system than the one they play up north.

I think he still has an excellent top speed, but his start-up, acceleration, and short-burst have diminished.

Pulju would require a 3rd team involved willing to burn the oil as they would never trade him to us. Burn potential just too high.
Jvr would be a waste of money. Schenn could be awesome if the bidding war doesn't make his cost crazy...

I feel the same, we need to get younger (easier said than done). More and more though, I wonder if he’s given up on the NHL, and is looking forward to playing back home in Finland- where the level of hockey is easier. Just speculation on my part, I still have faith in this player.

Friedman on last 32 thoughts saying that "someone" told him there is nothing to the JVR to Calgary rumour.

I don’t think they should waste picks on a rental when the flames might not even make the playoffs and we shouldn’t be signing old guys with term when we have 3 or 4 prospects needing a spot on the roster next season.

I used to think Puljujarvi would be a decent pickup. But he’s just a bad player. JVR has twice as many points in less games and he’s an old man. If you are picking up a historically underachieving guy I’d go for Athanasiou maybe. He’s at least going to add to team speed.
