Jagr the legend
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...t-with-flames/
Didn't see this posted here, but Francis with some solid reporting on Jagr's stint with the flames! Goes into his superstitions, the fact he had like 20 pairs of skates he was always tinkering with, and the travelling Jagr's!

Saw that yesterday too, that was a really good article. Still happy I have a legit Flames jersey with Jagr on the back. Pretty awesome that his last NHL team was the Calgary Flames.

I was around the Saddledome during his short tenure.
When Francis writes 'rock star', he's understating it. I've seen all sorts of people in and around the bowels of the building like PM's, Gretzky and other retired HOF players, actors, etc... and it's always a big deal.
Jagr is on another level. The air in the room freaking changes wherever he goes and I've never seen/experienced anything quite like it. It's what I imagine what happens when someone like Prince went somewhere.

When Litvinov came over to play in the Mac's Tournament, Peter Nedved was their star. The coaching staff told me he was good but the Flames should be looking at a kid named Jagr. I passed that on to the Flames but I'll never know whether they took the information seriously.

The only Flames jersey I kept in my recent jersey sale is my Jagr jersey.

Don't care if the experiment didn't work, so glad to have him on the team and to say that the greatest non-canadian of all time played for your franchise.

My Jagr jersey is the only one I've never worn or taken the tag off of.

I’m sure the Flames were well aware of Jagr, he was drafted 5th overall.

I remember taking my jersey to Great Plains the day he signed. Two weeks later my Jagr jersey was ready to go.
I was also in the building for his last ever NHL goal against the Red Wings. Shame his stint didn't last the entire year, but it was still a fun ride while it lasted.

Crappy draft for Calgary. Kidd, Kruse and not much else.
OTOH they could have been the Isles who just missed Jagr and took Scott (two game) Scissons.

Paul Kruse, love it.
IIRC, Kruse had a pretty good lockout shortened season in ‘95 (?). Was looking like he was going to be a nasty power forward but didn’t hit that level again. Too bad. I remember thinking he was going to be scary/good.

My only actual on ice recollection of Jagr as a Flame is hooking his own teammate’s to drag him up the ice! He couldn’t keep up at all but I still wish they’d just kept him around as a PP specialist.

Not hooking, but poking him forward with his stick. Matt Bartkowski of all people...stopping Trevor Lewis of all people.

Fascinating to know who was the guy that used Jardo's holy water to make his own stick score.
Those who had 'minus 3' games while #68 was with the team were Tkachuk and Ferland (Dec 2, 5-7 loss to Edmonton), Giordano (Nov 28, 1-4 loss to Toronto), Backlund (Nov 24, 4-6 loss to Dallas), Hamonic (Nov 15, 2-8 loss to Detroit), Hamilton (Oct 13, 0-6 loss to Ottawa).
