OMG

I searched back several pages for 'J Spot' but didn't search this most recent page and in my reading somehow skimmed right over your post...

Just a heads up, the Avenida Food Hall is only open Thursday through Sunday and may not be open on Valentines as it falls on a Tuesday.

Having said that, this burger is incredible, and can be ordered medium rare as they ground the beef in house. I've tried it a few times for consistency and always comes out on top.

2) Wayback Burger - Classic /w Bacon added. - Two beef patties cooked-to-order, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, mustard, ketchup . A new challenger has arrived! This place just opened by the superstore in Bowness and I have to say it was incredible. Get the Onion ring and milk shake with it (also incredible).

3) National - The Clive Burger - Two beef patties, American Cheese, Clive Sauce, lettuce, tomato, dill pickles on a brioche bun. I dont know what it is about this one, but always hits the spot and love the clive sauce

CP, the above 3 burgers will knock your socks off and I welcome a bump to this thread to tell me of some new spots to try.
That burger at MJ's probably keeps the lights on because I have never seen a place where everybody mehs at the rest of the menu.

Has anyone been to Buchanan's recently?

I remember they were one of the few places you could get a burger cooked to order back in the day and it was really great... Still the case?

Otherwise, another thumbs up for Lil' Empire and an honourable mention for Inglewood Drive In... I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised last summer.

My wife isn't a burger person but she fell in love with the truffle fries.

Burger noob here -- what is the appeal of getting a "medium rare" burger? Maybe I'm just conditioned but I would like a burger to have a nice meaty flavor, with maybe a crust/sear on the outside depending on the thickness. Nobody likes a dry burger, but I'm not sure I see the appeal of a burger dripping with juices either.

I'm a medium rare steak guy but I'd like to know more when it comes to burgers...

You can still get medium rare burgers at Buchanans

They grind their own meat.

I medium burger tastes amazing

Try it at least once

You can also get medium rare burgers at 'The Waterloo Kitchen and Bar' in Killarney and yeah, I don't see the appeal. Not really like a medium rare steak, too mushy on the inside.

Then, respectfully, they are cooking them wrong.

I'll admit it took some convincing to get me to try a medium burger the first time. I think you hit the nail on the head - we've been widely conditioned to cook the ever-loving #### out of some things that just don't require it... Any one else grow up on hockey puck pork chops because of "food safety"?

Obviously there needs to be an understanding of the process and precautions taken - no one's just throwing their frozen costco paties on the grill to medium (please don't do this!)... But when done right, the result is fantastic... Kinda like a medium rare steak vs. medium well

Love to see the action this thread is getting. I now have to make a trip to J spot, which is a super long drive (Im in the NW)

Next on the list is waterloo, J-spot and Inglewood.

As an aside, had the burger at Buchanans recently and was not for me. It tasted fine, but was HUGE and left me way to full after eating it. Not a great meat to topping/bun ratio and honestly seemed just ok.

Had one years ago at Fatburger in the USA, it was good. I don't like it medium rare, more like medium.

I've ordered my burger medium or medium rare a few times when I lived in the states. Almost every single time I've had to rush home within 20 minutes of eating it because of violent diarrhea.

Never again.

IMO, you don't want a burger medium rare. There are plenty of cuts of meat that are best medium or even slightly on the medium well side, and a burger is one of them. But when done properly, it's way better.

There used to be a place called Lava in Kensington that would do a sous vide burger at I'd guess somewhere in the mid 130s and it was so perfect.

That’s not how it works.

Hey all. Where should I take my kids for dinner downtown? Looking for a chill pub or brewery setting type place. My kids are giants and hungry also.

What took them so long? Fries dipped in Big Mac sauce is damned good.
