This one looks like it is from London behind Buckingham Palace.

actually it was in St. Petersburg, Russia across the street from the Hermitage across Nevsky prospect. I'd like to go to London someday. Been quite a few places but England isn't one of them.

Some really great pictures here. I have been thinking of getting a new set up. If anyone whom is familiar with the different models can give some feedback on this set up/value, I would appreciate it.

I'm no real buff on different brands for lens quality, but that looks like a pretty nice way to set yourself up for under a grand. I don't know what cameras you've had before, but if you're just starting in the SLR market I'm sure that camera would give you pictures you'd be very happy with.

What are you interested in using it for?

I was hoping to take some pictures with it....

Maybe some shots too...

Seriously, just was looking for a somewhat versatile setup that gives me a good result. I am certainly not a pro.

Well, those that I know who were in similar situations to you and picked up the Rebel have generally been very happy with it. I'm sure it's image quality would be enough to make you happy. And, if you're like me, getting a package like that one which will give you a zoom well beyond 35mm is something that you'll really appreciate.

A thousand bucks is a fair investment on a camera, so check out other's opinions, but I'm pretty confident that it's a camera that would more than satisfy you in everything you'd likely want it for as well as being capable of more. I don't know what kind of deals you might find with the exchange rate as it is now though, but that might be worth a look too.

I bought a Rebel XTi yesterday and have not been able to put it down. $799 I thought was a pretty good price.

The 55-200 is a pretty slow lense (F4.5 - 5.6), so it will be really really hard to use when there's low light especially on the 200 end. But this set up will def let you figure out what other lense you will purchase in the future. if you spend a lot of time up in the 70-200 range? 70-200 F4 IS, if you spend it all in the 20 - 30 range? the 17-55 2.8 IS would be ideal. for 1000 bucks.. that's a great buy

Speaking of which, anyone knows where to get the remote for the XTi? I've been looking for it but without luck.

For general amusement, some random shots from the summer and other things:

Okotoks versus St. Albert . . . you can't outrun the ball:

Below, the bum who struck out and the catcher ringing him up.

Below, rounding second with the outfielder winding up . . . . this guy actually beat the throw to third.

Below, the wind-up . . .

Below, next night, the big hero:

. . . . and those who paid $8 to come watch them, across two generations:

Below, High River Rodeo action.

Below, big boots, big hat, big buckle, big pop . . . . great day to be a kid on the prairie. At the rodeo.

Below, lotsa money in the white hat crowd:

Below, Rome in May, the tourist jerks try to rattle a huckster, his can for coins out of view:

Below, Radda In Chianti, Tuscany:

Below, Sunday, on the way to Picklejar Lakes, cold and blustery:

Below, earlier, the way higher
