I don't mind Debrusk, but I assume Rick Ball is with the team already, so just let him call Flames games on HNIC! We've gotten the short end of the stick since Hughson got promoted to the #1 spot and Mark Lee was let go.
Randorf (and in past years), Romanuk are/were both terrible.

I feel like Smith struggles when he doesn't see alot of action hence the home record where we out shoot and out Corsi the opposing team then find our selves trailing. I fell like this was all to common last year and the story so far this year.

Varlamov has 95.5% in 3 starts so far, all of which have been wins.
He's a pretty underrated goalie in my opinion.
He's also the confirmed starter for tonight.

I don't think it is that simple. The Flames were a high-possession hockey team both on the road and at home, and their record in games in which they outshot and were outshot-by the opposing teams were nearly identical:
Outshot — 14–12
Outshoot — 21–23

There is definitely some merit to his claim:
At home Smith faced 26.9 shots against / 60 with -0.87 deltaSV%
On road Smith faced 34.2 shots against /60 with +3.05 deltaSV%
According to expected SV%, the Flames didn't necessarily give up worse chances at home, either:
Smith
Home xSV%: 90.98 *1917 home minutes
Home SV%: 90.1%
Road xSV%: 90.61 *1273 road minutes
Road SV%: 93.66
He wasn't alone, as Rittich too struggled at home while being relatively solid on the road
Rittich:
Home xSV%: 90.81 *only 161 home minutes played though
Home SV%: 85.51
Road xSV%: 91.2 *847 road minutes
Road SV%: 91.2
Rittich Home SA/60: 25.7
Rittich Road SA/60: 31.3
If I had to guess, the real reason is that the Flames are a team whose forwards, backcheck poorly, and so they're better off making saves with everyone already established in the zone able to force opposing shooters to rush their shots. Give any shooter time and space and they'll bury a shot on a goalie. On the road you concede zone time but play tighter defensively.

Gaudreau, Mony, and Lindholm have been red hot as well (minus the St. Louis game). I'm not worried at all about the Flames' offence keeping up with the Avs. It's goaltending where things get a little iffy. Hopefully Rittich is focused and ready to go tonight. If he can put in a solid effort, I like our chances.

i would say if you have a better record when getting outshot there is something to it.

My other theories were simpler:
1) Altitude. On the road they are closer to sea level so it is an oxygen rich environment and they have jump. Their resting state is oxygen deprived
2) Gulutzan - addition by subtraction. The decision on line matches. The more say Gully had, the worse the team did
I’m just kidding. I think.

At least we have Debrusk tonight filling in for Hrudey. I have no issues with getting the short end of the stick since Hughson left, it sucks but makes sense, normal to happen being in Western Canada vs the East. Randorf is brutal though, fortunately for us Romanuk left Sportsnet.
I agree though, just let Rick Ball call the game, he is already here.

If anything the Altitutde should work in the Flames favour both at home and on the road. They train in and are used to the high altitude conditions, whereas their opponents are not. And then on the road, they should have an easier time than their opponents in their relatively lower home.

Fair. Unless all the road teams pump oxygen in the room like it is a Vegas casino when they come to Calgary.
Okay, then
3) Maybe the Flames were worse at home because they like the debauchery. So on the road, they stay in the same hotel, have team curfews, etc., and they take care of themselves because they are supervised. Except in St Louis where they are temporarily ‘supervised’ by old dog Keith. Carb loading and unable to handle their brown.

The Canucks have their usual crew of Shorthouse and Cheech for their HNIC game.

The best case scenario for us fans would be to have Ball calling the game tonight and either Debrusk or Jason York(as he has filled in before). Being Hrudey is never avail on a sat night. At least we got half of a good tandem(Debrusk) so that’s a bonus.

That’s because while this is a Saturday night game it is not technically a HNIC game. The Canucks game is only on SNP, which is Shorthouse & Garrett’s regular network.
