But long Beach zoning, ALWU labour relations/terminals not paying overtime, and the trucker shortage are all not really federal issues.

Somewhat ironically peobably the best thing Biden could do to help would be keep line 5 going. If that fuel needs to travel by truck it will pull truckers to that job, exacerbating the shortage.
I have no problem blaming Biden cause he is about as useless and dumb of a President as the US has had, but he is not really at fault for the energy or supply chain issues. I mean, he could probably do a couple things that might help, but at the end of the day state & local jurisdictions have screwed the pooch.

The issue with the stacking containers thing also has to do with not being able to free up the chassis needed to transport new constainers.

I mean, how hard is it to figure that out? The guy that posted about it on Twitter said went out and visited with the workers for a few hours and that is what they told him.

Everyone likes to bitch about the ports not being open 24/7 until you realize that out of 7 cranes, 2 are working because they don't have room to move containers. So why complain about the port working time?

Kinda dumb. But hey, here we are.

Well Baldwin has been railing about gun control for years now.

Except when it comes to movie sets.

There you shouldn't even be required to use competent armorers and follow basic gun safety rules (don't put the gun at someone 5' away).

You guys realise the problem with the containers isnt how high they can be stacked but that they arent being sent back to China because the western economies aren't ramped up they and so sending full boats back, also Asia doesnt really want to deal with our garbage anymore and so isnt excepting our recycling as much (which used to go in the containers)

I'm sure there are a multitude of reasons why there are backlogs at the port, but it really is as simple as solving one bottleneck at a time.

Right now it looks like the full containers not being able to move out of port is the biggest bottleneck so they need to do everything they can to get that moving otherwise we are in for 6 ####ty months.

I'll say a lot of bad things about social media and twitter, but at least it allows the public/independent media an platform by which they can hold mirrors up to politicians in ways that MSM never will.

Of course most of said politicians couldn't give a #### and it's pretty much just pissing in the wind, but at least there's an outlet for it where people can actually voice their frustration. It's too bad all of the other nonsense comes with it, but that part is good.

Kneeling for Black lives matter, but funding the police.
Reducing funding for police is a very unpopular policy, including among Democrats and Black Americans. 23 per cent of Black Americans would like to see a net decrease in police funding in their community, compared with 38 per cent who want to see police funding increased. For Hispanics, those numbers are 16 per cent and 46 per cent, and for Democrats 25 and 34.

In the mean time coal usage is through the roof in China. Great job world.

I would say that the vast majority of Americans want spending to go to the right places for police services. Right now, too much of that funding is being spent on the militarizing of law enforcement, not on putting officers on the street or giving them training on how to be the peace officers the public expects them to be. The police get a ton of money as it is. Stop spending it on making them killing machines and instead spend it on training them how to deal with, and diffuse situations.

It's wild how the corruption and serving the corporate masters has just gotten so open and brazen that it's even making a guy like Larry Summers uncomfortable.

A good take, but it sounds like even you don't want a blanket defunding of the police.

Glenn Youngkin is up by 111k votes in Virginia.

If he pulls this off, do moderate Dems run away from the $1.75T package?

I'm not sure the thought behind that?

Vote count usually goes late to democrats in VA, but this year's counting is different, so not so sure. There could still be lead changes, but always hard to read early results in VA. Youngkin may well win though as polling is trending towards hims.

There were some weird school controversies swaying this election. Afghanistan hurt, Democrat infighting hurt, and the school stuff in the suburbs hurt. McAuliffe is a moderate, and Youngkin is a not too crazy republican moderate.

Probably, but that plays right into the GOP's hands for 2022. Moderate Dems will blame the progressives even though the stuff proposed in the initial reconciliation bill have overwhelming support with voters across party lines. But hey, at least Manchin will be able to buy himself another boat.

Of course not. The police provide a very important function in society. I would like to see their budget tied directly to social services they are many times called to deal with though. Mental health services need to be tightly incorporated into the peace keeping role. Same with family violence. Same with drug abuse issues. Peace keeping is a huge responsibility and requires a number of special skills to meet the needs of society as a whole, and law enforcement is not capable f dealing with these matters themselves, even though they are funded and charged to take those concerns on. Change the funding model or change the role of police to where it is more of a peace keeping role and servicing the community at large. That's my thought after being on the inside of that world for a dozen years.

A lot of hot takes from all over the spectrum that paid zero attention to this election.

School issues mostly decided this election. Plus a bit of democrat discord and fallout from Afghanistan. Prog vs moderate didn't really play into it all.

A bit of a silver lining to me is that a sort of Trump shunning, somewhat normal R candidate won.
