Funny enough, Flames had a poll when the team moved to Calgary but fans chose the name they already had. I think they made the right choice as it's a solid name. In the end, I'm glad it wasn't western themed or the runner-up "Calgary Chinooks."

EDIT: Imagine if the Buckaboos won, or Yahoos??

And I stand by that vote.

So I guess we weren't too bright in 1980.

Frankly, I don't see the real need for a "local" name. Lots of teams just have a heroic/tough/evocative name. Kings, Sabres, Red Wings, Flyers. There's no extra lightning in TB, the Bruins was just made up on the spot for no particular reason, the owner of the original Winnipeg Jets was a NY Jets fan.

Oh my God...if you want the dumbest suggestions possible ask the Fans.

It worked so well for Colorado and Minnesota and All-Star games and...I could go on forever.

Just name it what you want to name it and move along. Dont ask 'the fans.'

You're a BRAND NEW GODDAMNED TEAM!!! You dont even have fans yet FFS!

Besides you know that Poll is going to get jacked and: "Utah Turd Garglers" is inevitably going to win.

That time we hijacked the Stockton poll to make "Stockton Scorch" win.... and they still went with "Heat."

Only 152 people cared to vote for the name of the Flames? Wow.

These contests are just to gauge what people are thinking. I'm pretty sure when San Jose did theirs, Blades won and Sharks was second, but they picked Sharks anyway.

Lol!

Who GAF about AI Bots?

AI Bots are not your problem! You have to worry about the pissed off ass holes of the entire state of Arizona, every hockey fan who has endured the joke that was the Coyotes for the past 20-odd years, random dickheads in general and an Elite Army of Russian Babushkas!

A Fan Poll?

This has been done before. It has never ended well.

Meh, he’s the survey guy. I’m sure he has the team required to do it right. Plus I’m sure it’ll be to garner interest in what identity they should have. I can’t imagine they go into the season without a name or logo. That would be dumb. You have to have an identity to show your new fanbase.

How about coyotes?

It’s going to end up something like Utah Saints.

I actually don’t mind that name. Not sure what the logo would look like but it’s kinda neat to have different types of names in a league. People always look to the aggressive names but sometimes the Wilds and Flames of the world are just a different variety.

I want any new Quebec team to be called Les Bonhommes Combattants.

Their logo could be a snarling Bonhomme.

Actually I think that phoenix retains the coyotes name.
