Well a hockey player could have a slow stick, versus a player with a quick release. Jankowski is a slow skater, which doesn't bode well for him if he wants to be an NHLer

Are you basing Jankowski being a slow skater on a highlight package that has about 2 total seconds of him taking any stride, and that's a sequence where he's just sneaking into an open area...?

Yes of course I am.
I've watched all the highlight packages that's posted here and on YouTube. I never said anything before because I've waited until he's developed, but now that he's a senior and has filled out and started producing, it's easier to criticize.
Before anyone gets their undies twisted up their ass, I'm not saying Jankowski won't make the NHL or can't improve upon his skating. I'm not saying he's a ####ty prospect or the Flames can't draft. Or any other extrapolated poor conclusion that comes to your defensive psyche.
I'm just saying he doesn't have a strong first few strides.

His skating has looked fine to me in development camps. I'll take live viewings over YouTube. Flames do want him to learn to play at a higher pace. Maybe you're confusing him coasting with him being slow?

Well I respectfully disagree. He maybe doesn't have that explosive first step with the puck that Sam Bennett shows, but his overall wheels have impressed me enough. I think he may be a comparable skater to Mikael Backlund. Jump to 3:31 of this video, as Jankowski hops onto the ice from the bench:
Not only is he able to make a nice diagonal to cut the guy off in open ice, he shows the balance to stop on a dime and make a play with his stick. Then going the other way, he coasts for a moment, but you see a little burst of urgent acceleration just as he passes the offensive blue line (3:42). Then watch his acceleration at 3:54 near the red line.
As for backward skating, I have a bit of a suspicion that he may be a smoother backwards skater than any player who's played on our team this year except for Brodie, Russell, Kulak and Gaudreau. His backwards skating is one of his best assets. We'll have to see how it looks in the pros against faster forwards but I feel it's going to impress.

Geez, speaking of defensive psyche.
At this post GranteedEV address your critique and I had a chuckle at the phrase "on his skates" as if any players speed matters off of them. It was a funny image. Only defensive post was yours.
As for his speed, I've never noticed it being a problem.

My comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular, but rather preventative maintenance because I know how fanatic fans can be when someone is critical of a Flames player, prospect or otherwise person within the organization.
