Could you imagine how awkward it would be to announce the Conn Smythe and a guy with street clothes joins the cup winners on the ice to receive that award? The only thing Friedman struggles with is pretending he's not an Oilers fan.

I'm guessing everyone is (i) standing up, and (ii) watching that puck slowly head towards the goal line. By the time the linesman unexpectedly (?) waves off the icing, I'm guessing nobody -- trainer and players included -- realize Kucherov even needs a stick.
Add in Landeskog having his skate blade come flying out, and it was a comedy of equipment malfunctions to close out the final minute.

I was driving and nearly went off the road. He decided not to because that would mean either Nate or Vassy wouldn't be on his ballot. Just a total embarrassment.

Starting next year they’ll have to create the McDavid award and award it to McDavid after the Smythe and before the cup presentation.

The 74-75 Washington Senators finished 8–67–5, with 21 points. Maybe a couple of those ties could have been wins LOL with OT or a shootout.

Or the Rogers Sportsnet trophy and then just give it to McDavid every season (even in retirement).

so Makar was a unanimous choice. Some of the 2nd and 3rd place votes were interesting.

Those all make sense to me but suggesting McDavid is almost like suggesting the NHL war room that rigged game 5 against Calgary should be getting it.

I'm not sure what it would look like for someone to win the Smythe without making the finals, but certainly it would involve a performance with more than 8 teams wins (half the requisite number to win the cup)
I'm not sure it would ever happen, but presumably would involve 3 rounds of Oettinger like netminding, and then losing in 7 quadruple overtime to the ultimate cup champ or something

I don’t care how good of an individual performance it is, goalie or forward, if your team doesn’t make the finals, you can’t be the mvp of the playoffs. End of story.

idiotic comments by EF on even considering McDavid as third place on the ballot.
how can a guy that couldn't even get his team into the Finals be the Conn Smythe winner? Now if McDavid single handedly took the Oilers to 7 games and then the Avs walloped TB 4-0, you might be able to start that conversation...
i usually like EF, but thought his comment was just stupid

I don’t really follow to closely the contract status of other teams but Cale Makar is locked in for 5 more years at 9m per, I didn’t know that. So they’ve known he’s been a good player for quite a while as I’m sure so has the rest of the league.

Cale Makar, 23-year-old Conn Smythe winner, is locked in @ $9.0 m for five more years.
The Oilers start paying 27-year-old Darnell Nurse $9.25 m for EIGHT YEARS in the Fall.
Haha.

Lots of love for Valeri Nichushkin. He could be a good pick-up in the summer.

Not sure how Mike Chambers could vote Kadri 2nd when he missed four games and only averaged 17 minutes a game. He performed well and all but there were clearly four better Avalanche players.

I didn't realize that Kroenke, owner of the Avalanche, is married to a Walton (Walmart heiress). Together they're worth $20 billion.
