Yes, that is precisely what we have. We just switched to Shaw a couple months ago, and the XG1 (plus two Arris portals) is what we got for three TV's.
You can use either Coax or CAT5, and the portals all detect each other automatically. Personally I used coax...the network can probably handle the traffic, but I thought it was best to keep it separate.
The picture is great...the XG1's UI is a bit too simplified for my taste, but it's idiot-proof, smooth, and works well.

I'm thinknig of getting HBO for Game of Thrones. On Shaw's page they have this:
https://www.shaw.ca/television/chann...movie-network/
A 2 month free trial. Now, I only need it for 2 months, and it doesn't say anything about agreeing to a year term. So could I just sign up and cancel to get it for free?

Yup after it's done just cancel, that's what I did so that I could rewatch the previous seasons. I'll have to pay for one month to get all of the upcoming one though.

Booo! Stupid fine print.
Can I still just pay for 2 months of HBO? Or is it usually a year long subscription?

I didn't rent blue sky equipment and they gave me the promo. Doesn't hurt to call in and ask what deals they have on HBO.

You can change your programming daily if you want to. I think some of the premium channels will charge your for a month regardless of whether it's in your billing for 2 days or 30 days.
You'll be one of hundreds of customers adding HBO temporarily for Game of Thrones. You don't need to subscribe for a whole year.

Yeah, I've only ever had HBO for when GoT is on, and they don't try to convince you to keep it or anything. I do the same thing with sports channels and get rid of them when hockey or curling aren't playing.

I can recommend a ton of excellent shows on HBO as well, which is coupled with the TMN Go App. Love having all that content on demand.

Have you considered chatting with someone and seeing if you can pay them a small fee to "borrow" their free range TV for two months?
EDIT: Actually, I don't have any idea if free range TV would have it... ignore suggestion if it's not possible.

Charging more for the same. I haven't added any services in years, but it always costs more.
It's not like there is a lot of choice in the market.

I'm on the 150 plan for $80 for 2 years... not locked in on TV and phone.
I assume this will increase my tv and phone prices, but not my internet.
It's annoying, that's for sure.

Can't you pretty much switch between Telus and Shaw every two years and receive their "new customer" promos?

Possibly, but Telus is the devil, and I don't do deals with the devil. Not anymore.

I cancelled my Telus about 10 or 11 months ago, whenever Shaw 150 came out. They have still sent me a bill every month since that time.

Ya, see that's the kind of crap I don't want to have to deal with. They are so incredibly incompetent.

I got the HBO package last month so we could watch GoT and stream Big Little Lies, and TMN's streaming quality was such utter garbage I cancelled it. Didn't matter if I ran it through a PC or the BlueSky box, it was artifacted and the sound was very compressed. Not to mention TMN removed support for their Windows 10 App, so even if I wanted to stream it through my PC, I wouldn't get 5.1
A 1 GB Webrip of Big Little Lies looked and sounded far better (in full 5.1 as well), despite being webripped from HBO's US streaming service (which I'm guessing has a different setup than TMN's in Canada).
Would not recommend.
