So that was out of the blue, Iceland has 3 IBM mainframes and very few young guys working with them. My company of 500 in Iceland has a freakin genius, he offered me a job working with him to work in the mainframe group in our company.
Its unix, linux, and we are hoping to bring in a new Z series to join our new datacenter, you can see our new promotional video, GREEN ENERGY baby!

I remember when I was working for CPR/IBM and a bunch of mainframe guys were talking about how many people scrambled to pick up other Unix sys admin skills or DBA skills as the feared for their careers when mainframes were obsolete, which should have been any time back in the 90s. Now here we are, 2013, with a bunch of critical systems still relying on them, and very few people left with the skill-set to take care of them. I'd imagine the guys that stuck it out are all laughing all the way to the bank now.

Well an update, almost 5 yrs now with this company and almost 3 in the mainframe department, was told of a job with Visa Iceland and went for it and got it!
Its going to be shift work, but the wages are ridiculous and I'll be able to learn more mainframe while doing some level 2-3 support for staff as well.
So happy!
