Aesthetically-pleasing options? There are many the NHL can consider:

Canada - in front of Parliament Hill

US - in front of the Lincoln Memorial, Central Park

There are many other places that can fit a rink in when there is no need for spectator stands.

I was sceptical of keeping a decent surface on a lake in any event.

There have been a bunch of basketball games on aircraft carriers...are there any cruise ships with regulation sized rinks?

Too bad, it would've been a great little marketing opportunity for the province. Travel Alberta probably pays millions for a fraction of the exposure.

I wish the NHL was at the point of having VR broadcasts already. I imagine a future of sports viewing where full 360 degree cameras are set up in the best possible viewing location and then you can view the game together with friends from anywhere in the world as if you were just sitting next to each other there. It would be so cool to then have games in a range of visually amazing places, whether in the mountains, in front of the houses of parliament, on a cruise ship or wherever. It seems like we have the tech to already be there, so I imagine it's just a matter of time until it becomes an option, but I would especially love to watch an outdoor game in VR with my friends in far away places under the current circumstances.

Still can’t believe this has yet to happen.

That would be my vote (The Parliament Hill option)

Have all 6 Canadian teams play over 2 days.

(Yes, I intentionally forgot Edmonton)

Jasper might actually be a better fit. I feel the park is less protectionist than banff. Still want it to be a boa though!

Bonsecours Basin in Montreal would be pretty sweet. It is ranked one of the best outdoor rinks in the world.

Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto might work too.

Yeah sort of, but they're inside.

Both nice, but both kind of done before. A lot of big stadiums are in down town areas so we've seen the hero shots of downtowns before.

I'm kinda bummed the LL idea didn't pan out. That would seriously have been a magical event.

Wollman Rink in Central Park, with the NYC skyline behind it, would make a pretty great setting.

Or alternatively, trying to cram everyone into the tiny rink at Rockefeller Center would be funny. Perhaps they can do 3 on 3.

Yeah, I like the Lake Louise idea the best.

It would seem like a good time to have it somewhere a little more remote since luring fans won't be an issue.
