Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
Dube rotating on extra line.
Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Dube is on the ice, just didn’t skate on a line. Is practicing PP/PK stuff right now. #Flames

So what’s the takeaway from these lines?
Dube sent down, Rieder gets a contract and stays up, Rinaldo gets a 2-way offer, DSP gets cut loose? And what’s happening on the blue line, MacDonald offered a 2 way deal?

Boy, that second PP unit still looks kind of weak to me. Can't have all elite players across the roster I guess.

No Ryan? That won’t last very long.

I would prefer either Kylington or a forward to be there myself.
Regardless, I'm more concerned that none of Backlund, Czarnik, or Lucic were effective on the PP last year. Whereas Bennett was arguably our best non PP1 guy.

Im going to say yes to all of that...and add that Kylington gets sent down.

Oh I don't know.
Backlund and Czarnik both have pretty good shots, Lucic seems decent in front of the net, Brodie can move the puck and Andersson definitely has some offensive chops.
Obviously it's not even close to PP1, but that goes for all teams.
A lot of what PP2 is expected to do is create pressure and wear down the PK. Even if that PP doesn't score, they're probably not going to lose momentum too often.
A lot of their effectiveness depends on Lucic though. How good is he at getting to rebounds?
I'd also like to see Mangiapane given a chance in PP2 at some point.

Happy to see this. I wouldn't mind signing MacDonald to a two-way deal and then bringing him up if Kylington really struggles, but I don't see that happening. Kylington just has so many more dimensions to his game so much more room to grow.

I will add that they may sign DSP to a 2-way as well if there is a need for his type in Stockton.
The Flames have all kinds of room to add contracts, so it would not mean anything as far as taking time away from others.

Why would they play Kylington-Andersson in practice before the last pre-season game if this was the plan?

I love the fact we can keep Frolik, he makes this team better. However, I don't know what else Bennett can do to earn a top 6 spot. Played great all pre season, contributed offensively, and still on the third line. I can't be the only Flames fan that wants to at least try this.

At least he has a better chance to move up to RW on line 2 as RW on line 3 (as opposed to LW on line 3). If he has a good start, shows hes comfortable at RW, they may try him with Tkachuk and Backlund during the season.

Why?
They still need a full team there as well...has zero effect on the big club.
