I love watching Toronto lose and it is even sweeter when it is game 7.

Interesting. Off the top I’d say management generally has been bad. It’s either bad asset management or generally bad management philosophies over the years. Plus being in a Canadian market means more scrutiny on any moves so it makes it harder to make unfair trades in the Canadian teams favour.

Leafs were really pressing that period. Good that Boston weathered that storm.

I’d like to see the Leafs win. I grew up hating them cause of guys like Domi and Tucker. But now that they revamped in the last few years and were able to do a on the fly rebuild I’ve slowly became a fan. It doesn’t bother me they get all the media attention. They have the overwhelming majority of fans compared to any other team in the league. Media coverage isn’t communism my friends. Most people tune in to hear about the leafs and they pander to it. That’s life.

Not a huge fan of their fans. Fairweather fans who pretend to know the sport. That’s why I don’t care much for them. But I do appreciate the skilled lineup sans their defence.

Can't wait for Boston to finish these clowns off in the 3rd, just so I can watch the Toronto media and the HNIC crew's heads explode. It's gonna be glorious.

Free agents and expiring contracts mostly don't want to play here and we're on lots of no trade lists. That's huge. California and Florida can easily become contenders if they draft decent and have owners willing to spend (Anaheim, Tampa, LA, San Jose) along with big American cities (Chicago, New York area, Boston etc)

Combine that with crazy fans and media that won't leave you alone and pressure GM's into trying to do too much too soon and you have a recipe for disaster.

Taxes, taxes, taxes.

There are other things involved - Canadian markets tend to demand contenders and don't like extended tanking (Oilers notwithstanding) and rebuilds are therefore traditionally more difficult, especially pre-cap.

But mostly, it's taxes. What's a $10M contract worth for a Panthers player versus a Canadiens player? Tells you everything you need to know.

Also: Bruins should score here so it's 4-1 with 11 minutes remaining. Just, you know, for old time's sake.

Ok then explain why the Panthers haven’t won a Cup and are in fact a pathetic franchise? Sharks? Coyotes?

Pre-2005, the exchange had a huge effect. After the lockout there’s no reason Canadian teams haven’t won. Multiple presidents trophy winners so it’s not like Canadian teams perennially suck. It’s just bad luck.

The Panthers are just a generally poorly run franchise, as are the Coyotes (doesn't matter if your money is worth more if you're not willing to spend any of it). The Sharks actually don't have anywhere near the tax advantage that the Florida teams do, but the reason they haven't won a cup (since around 2000 when they were busy building up their franchise) is basically luck. They've had as good a chance as just about anyone over the past 10-15 years.

Can someone explain the "Icing Duration" clock to me? I've seen it a few times these playoffs.

Ownership....until recently.

They look to be stable at this point but unless they start getting better attendance, that wont last long either.
