Wow. Just wow. Thought it was amazing, like 9.5 amazing. It had some parts that were a stretch but it's a GD comic book movie about a guy who dresses like a cat, those moments are allowed lol.

I honestly think it was one of the top 3 Marvel movies, maybe even the best.

Wow!! Fantastic movie, I was completely absorbed through the whole movie, I can’t say enough. The music/soundtrack, also fantastic. I will go see it again for sure. Definitely one of the best of the movies for me, I’m really excited for Infinity War.

My only true issue is the fact that they filled it with little jokes throughout the movie, like all Marvel movies have had lately. It works with Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor and Spiderman, but it felt really out of place in this movie. Otherwise it was fantastic. One of my favourite Marvel movies for sure.

Damn does Marvel ever have telling a compelling story about superheros down to a science.

Add me to the list that recommends this film.

thrilled that the online trolls trying to sabotage the movies by putting out false ratings are going to be disappointed.

i know they tried doing that to star wars as well... when things like metacritic have "audience ratings" that low, its pretty obvious the trolls are out. weird thing is that it isn't only an alt right thing as much as it is an anti-marvel thing by disgruntled DC fanboys.

http://comicbook.com/marvel/2018/02/...ge-imdb-score/

https://nypost.com/2018/02/02/alt-ri...nther-reviews/

but not only did it not work, BP destroyed the most optimistic early tracking numbers in early february that were projecting 120-150 million opening 3 day weekend and is tracking to be the 5th biggest opening of all time at 218 million.

Absolutely loved it. Will discuss more when we transition this to a spoiler thread because I’m lazy and don’t feel like adding tags. Can’t say anything negative about it outside of minor nitpicks.

Phenomenal movie. It was serious and touching without being preachy, entertaining without being needlessly filled with pointless action sequences. I cared for all the characters, even the bad guys. Visually amazing. Great performances all around. I especially want to single out Andy Serkis. He gets so much credit for his motion capture work but he’s been amazing as Klaue in his appearances in the MCU.

Huge props to Coogler and the writers for how they handled race, colonialism, poverty, war etc. Didn’t gloss over it or ignore it. Faced it head on and did a masterful job of it. As a Canadian 30 something white male i was impressed. I can understand why this movie is being so well received in black communities. I heard places like Atlanta had record numbers of screenings this weekend.

I praise quite a few of the marvel movies but this might be the best yet.

I was really excited for Black Panther. I don't think it lived up to the hype. I think it was a good movie, but I wouldn't put it in the top 5 Marvel films.

Sorry if this s a dumb question, but prior to the release of this movie I had never heard of black panther (I am not a comic book guy) - but I was wondering if there is any theory as to the reason the movie had such a strong opening?

Was there a huge demand for this movie? Does this character have that big of following?

As an aside, I thought it was pathetic that those trolls tried to stir things up with their racial crap about guys getting beat up at the theatre.

Black Panther definitely does not have a huge following. Probably second only to gotg in terms of obscure characters marvel has made movies for. Or third, ant man might be less well known and popular.

I think the movie opened big for 3 reasons. It’s just marvel being marvel and infinity war hype is reaching fever pitch.

It is a black hero, with a black cast and we’ve not seen that before. Even people like me were excited for something different. In the States entire theatres were bought out so black kids could watch it. It became a cultural phenomenon.

The reviews were exceptionally strong. Like really, really strong. If it had weak reviews I would’ve skipped it. I hate seeing characters I love butchered on the big screen. Instead it’s getting universal praise and has some of the best audience scores of any superhero movie.

Saw it last night. I wouldn't put it in the same league as GotG or Iron Man. I'd put it above Dr. Strange...maybe in the Spiderman Homecoming type range. I thought they made much better use of the humour than they did with previous movies. The political messages were also handled much better. It's a lot better when they arise naturally in the context of the story, as opposed to in a monologue.

The final act dragged a bit, but Killmonger was a great villain.

Spoiler!

I went to see the movie with my girlfriend who is black and from South Africa. Apparently the movie was filmed in South Africa and they did a good job of representing that. They were speaking in a South African language, and they used several famous South African actors (although I believe they stated that Wakanda was near Nigeria). She quite enjoyed the movie.

The thing that honestly disappointed me was the music. I was looking forward to basically an entire score of hip-hop blended with African beats, and for the most part it was a pretty generic hero score.

Sure about that? I’d say 90% of the score sounded like African tribal music. I was actually surprised how little it seemed hip hop inspired.
