Default Blackhawks beat writer rips fanbase

In what I’d say is a pretty good tear down of what some people do in “modern fandom”, Mark Lazerus rips into Blackhawk fans who have turned on the team.

I think we saw a bit of what he’s responding to in the ATL reports from Gaskal in the PGTs from the last two games against the Hawks. Blows my mind that fans can turn on key members of a team that has won three Stanley Cups in very recent memory.

He's right. I'd take that hangover anytime. Three Cups in a decade? And now some salary cap issues because guys are worn out? Calm down, Chicago. Smoke your after-sex-cigarette and STFU.

Good for him.

25 % of hockey fans these days are insufferable whiners who channel the negativity they harbour from life into fixating and obsessing over something that's supposed to be a casual fun pass-time.

Did you actually survey some fan boards to come up with 25% or is that a random guess?

It seems like a pretty reasonable estimate to me. Maybe a bit low.

Not questioning the estimate. It seems reasonable to me, too.

Just curious.

Blackhawks have 3 cups in 9 years. Flames have advanced past the first round twice since 1990... Pretty sure this fanbase has been a lot more patient than the current Blackhawk fanbase. I just can't see fans in any Canadian city turning on legendary players who have brought 3 cups home like Blackhawk fans have.

Sure, there will always be the odd idiot out there, but the wholesale turning on players like Toews, Keith and Seabrook isn't something I think would happen here.

Just guessing. Couldn't find a stats site that breaks down fan-base whining.

Completely disagree. Watch Johnny or Monny go cold for six games and the pitch forks come out. Some of the vile comments about Bennett and Brodie in the last few months are almost bizarre with the vitriol some people toss out . There are definitely a contingent of those types that frequent here and I have no doubt they'd pull the same same stuff in the above situation.

Ditto. If the Devil came to me and told me that the Flames could win three Cups in a decade but would suck thereafter would I take it? Yes. Yes, I would.

Well, I'm willing to have the Flames win 3 cups in the next 9 years so we can test the hypothesis and see which one of us is correct.

Good. Stupid, pathetic, entitled and whiny piece of crap fans.

If the Flames had won that many Cups since 2010 you wouldn't be able to get the smile off of my face.

Shame on the Blackhawks for circumventing the cap and making up an injury on Hossa. I mean really, #### them.

The Blackhawks were the original sad-sack NHL franchise throughout most of their Original Six period, and their woes continued well on into the Bill Wirtz era.

Fans can have short memories I guess.
