I really wanted to get into it but I didn't really understand the morale system and the underlying systems in general. It's been many years though and maybe I didn't spend enough time with it.

They're making a new one, looks like it'll be a bit of a mash up of classic close combat games, the wargame series, and classic RTS style. 3D graphics instead of the top down view

Spoiler!

Never heard of this game before, but compared to the old ones posted, this just looks drab. The punchier visual style seems like it would keep more focus on gameplay, with the graphics being more communicative.

As with most CC lists, a bit too much Stars Wars influence on that list for my tastes.

For me it was:

SimCity 2000. Hours and hours and hours on this.

Civilization was also a great one.

Indianapolis 500: The Simulation. Came out in 89 apparently, but it was a 90s game for me.

Nascar Racing 1 and 2. I hate Nascar in real life but this was fun to play and you could create customized paint schemes which was great. Also one of the first online multiplayer games for me.

Microsoft Flight Simulator. The most interesting part of this was not flying it seriously, but finding new ways to crash.

And also a ton of fighter combat type games like Janes Longbow 2, F15, Falcon, F117a etc.

Stunts. Great game as you could built your own stunt course.

Descent 1 and 2

So basically either games with things that moved fast or where you build cities.

Stunts was so bad it was good.

Looks like the game was made with MS Paint.

I loved the Simcity games, but 2000 was still probably the best one.

I think the max size that you could make a city was 6 million people. I remember I got a city up to about 4 million and it became a mad house.

"We want a stadium to attrack a major league team" But we have 30.

"The nuclear power plant blew up" I have 100 nuclear powerplants and they're all going to blow up.

Then the navy came to town and the crime wave went through the room.

Great game.

Catacomb Abyss, which played like a rebranded Castle Wolfenstein, but I think I played it before then?

Need for Speed 1

Street Rod

F16 Fighting Falcon

Age of Empires

And obviously Doom, Duke Nukem, and Sim City

One of my favorite youtube channels, with a scripted video exploring some old world EQ

Diablo II just misses the cut as its June 2000. But it's still being played and has a relatively large modded community that is still updating the game after nearly 20 years.

But Starcraft has to take the win. Over 10M copies sold (many more copied) , the only other 90's game that comes even close is Half-Life. It's effect on eSports and pro-gaming can not be understated as Korea had multiple TV channels dedicated 24 hours to watching people play against each other in it. Even the video that CaptainCrunch used shows its importance, its a match from 2017...because it's still widely played and watched.

The online catered to a huge array of people. You could play with friends in team games, go heads up against people of similar level, play (and make) a number of different custom games so that you could even get RPG if you wanted. That's overlooking that the campaign was a realtively well crafted story and enjoyable to play itself. Snipers, Golems, 3v3 NR20, ah, the good ol' days.

For me my time played growing up was probably:

Diablo II: LoD
Starcraft

Diablo II
Starcraft: Broodwar

Age of Empires
