I don't like the country style of singing, I love anthem singers and Hart is my favourite by fair.
But I love how George is AWESOME with the kids and how he has embraced his role with the team. I have been critical of him and would prefer a great voice (without the twang), But I won't criticize George, and wouldn't complain if he extends his stay. His personality and enjoying his space has won me over.
He doesn't have to be a great singer, he seems like a pretty good dude out there and that's worth something

I did notice he did a great job with the Down Syndrome kids the other night. Moved down to their level so they felt more part of things with them, definitely stood out to me.

I'd rather have Canyon be the "country" part of the Flames rather than it being on the jerseys. If we need to have someone representative of that part of the city, I'm fully okay with it being the anthem singer.

He also always seems to enjoy doing the anthem. Watch as he smirks every time the fans shout "C" during the Star Spangled Banner.

Considering that is literally his job, I’d say he should probably be a good singer.
I really don’t care for national anthems before sports events.
Agreed. Growing up in North America it feels more "normal" than it should.
Objectively it's freaking weird.
You're there to watch a sports game between two cities, but now you're singing a national song and then cheering for a bunch of soldiers? I find it awkward at best, if not a bit creepy.

Not a big fan of country music, but I like the way Canyon sings the anthems straight - no silly vocal gymnastics, and almost always on key (unlike a few of the other teams’ anthem singers). His delivery also comes across as sincere and respectful. We could do a lot worse.

Funny this came up - I think it was during the game against Winnipeg last week that I thought to myself how lucky we are to have George Canyon after listening to their anthem singer.

I've always like Canyon, he does it well and fast which is the best thing you can ask from an anthem singer.
I always felt the blowback at the beginning was the weird contingent of Calgarians who get butthurt by and fixated on "cowboy culture" in Calgary. Don't worry, it's just a little thing we have and it doesn't hurt or embarrass the city even close to the way you think it does.
It does nothing at worst and at best slightly separates us from the dozens of mid size North American cities that have nothing for culture, just rows of McDonalds, Walmarts and chain owned, faux culture bars and restaurants.

I like the women that sang it before. Also the fill in women. But I’m not a fan of the country music tone. He seems like a cool guy and all, just not my taste.

Yeah people that make him out to be the worst anthem singer ever just because they don't like country music and are for some reason upset about that part of our history is something that's always made me laugh. I'm no country fan myself but that doesn't change the fact that he's a good singer.
Honestly, I really didn't like the lady we had before. Just too boring
