Yeah, it was a contract made in the early days of conference expansions...I think when B1G added Maryland... so they locked in early - too early and too long as it turns out.

the GOR is pretty bullet proof from what I read. It would take all the ACC members to agree to it, essentially dissolving the conference.

ND is the big chip that B1G is waiting on. If ND says no, I could see them just taking Oregon, Stanford, Washington and either Cal or Arizona, basically shutting the door on ND forever. And taking with them USC, Stanford, Michigan and MSU/ Purdue, teams that historically, ND has played often. The first two are major hits, and Michigan is also a pretty big rivalry, though they don't play every year. MSU/Purdue aren't 'rivals' per se, but they do play them fairly often as well.

I really don't like the way it's going either. This is not good for college football in particular and it may be devastating for college sport in general.

PAC12 is going to be in a rough way if Oregon jumps ship next. May as well become the mountain west. I think the four 16 team megaconferences will become a new reality sooner rather than later
Would not be surprised if the Big 12 tries to coax some of the PAC 12 teams away too.

This also messes up some of the bowl games and their conference tie ins. Or at least really changes them up and they will lose much of their tradition. for example the Rose Bowl.

Sounds like the PAC12 is about to die a quick death.

That's a solid pickup for the Big 12 and cements them solidly at the #3 conferecne. And adding the Arizonas really elevates them as a basketball conference. Also really puts the squeeze on the ACC who have nowhere to go now.

And really spells trouble for the PAC 12 outcasts - Washington State, Oregon State, Stanford, and Cal.

Sources tell ESPN that @GeorgiaFootball coach Kirby Smart has agreed to a new 10-year deal worth a total of $112.5 million, making him one of the highest paid coaches in college football.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith told ESPN on Tuesday that the talk around a potential 16-team College Football Playoff is growing.

"Sixteen just seems to be out there," Smith said. "You can't ignore it."

No decision on a format is imminent and could take years to decide. The current four-team format expires in four seasons, and the new one will begin in the 2026 season, which means the format will be heavily discussed the next two years.

On Tuesday, CFP executive director Bill Hancock told ESPN: "No reasonable options will be ruled out."

Remember back in June when I said college football is becoming less appealing by the day?

Neither do I.

Beyond stoked for the (real) opening weekend of college ball. Prepared for the Irish to lose by 40. That 17.5 spread is being generous.

Sounds like 12 team playoff is gonna be a thing. But all neutral site games unfortunately.

Correction. Not neutral site games. Awesome.

The more I read, the more I like this move. Top 6 conference champs, 6 at large. Top 4 (conference champs I think) get a bye.

This basically saves the Pac12 and Big12 and keeps them relevant.

1st round only....then it will revert to traditional sites of bowl games by the sounds of it.

Has any program fallen farther than Nebraska over the last 25 years? Tied at home at halftime with a very mediocre FCS team.

9 TDs in the 4th quarter alone. 6 in the last 4 minutes.

The two teams combined for 62 points and 504 yards -- in the fourth quarter. It was one point shy of the most ever in the fourth quarter of an FBS game (Navy vs. North Texas in 2007).

Side note: it was 15 years ago today that App. St. went into Ann Arbor and beat the Wolverines which changed the teams fortunes forever moving firward.

I was still living in NC and remember watching it with a few App St alumni...what a party that night.

Meanwhile Iowa beat South Dakota State 7-3 in a game that featured two safeties, which were the only 4 points scored in the entire 2nd half.

Irish

And I know this could age poorly haha, but I love that D. They look good under Freeman, things could've really went off the rails when Kelly jetted to LSU, but he's stabilized the program.
