A penalty shootout for a trip to the World Cup. Btw, this match, and tomorrows, was played in the same stadium Canada will play Belgium in November.

Shooter #3 for Australia cheated. Ball placed clearly ahead of the spot.

Also the Australia keeper's antics are annoying.

EDIT: and #6

Substitute keeper too, brought on just before the shootout.

They all did it! That was weird. The Peruvians put the ball on the spot.

Also, on Peru's miss the keeper looked off the line. Thats the thing, I dislike the antics too but the shootout is all about pressure and trying to put people off. Its why he's there.

Not to mention, I get the weird dancing antics to try and throw shooters off, but it also means that he's not planted and set and has no push-off power.

You're basically sacrificing your ability to actually potentially make a save in hopes that you've distracted your opponent enough to miss on their own.

Also...that Goodwin fellow looks like he should be trying to sell me insurance.

Peru got jobbed.

Wow never thought I’d see Australia and Canada in the World Cup at the same time. The dream final is still alive!

The Aussie goalie, Andrew Redmayne, is now being called The Grey Wiggle.

No idea why Peru played so conservative as the favourite in a must win game.

Also, before Goodwin's shot, Redmayne saw that the Peruvian keeper had Australian shooter tendencies on his water bottle, and threw it into the stands!

Costa Rica just beat New Zealand so they are the last team to qualify.

I seriously doubt this dreadful international period is enough to get Southgate sacked, but they might not score a single open play goal which is pretty much unforgiveable with the talent they have.

Costa Rica-New Zealand

I think New Zealand got robbed of the equalizer before half time. You can't go that far back for a foul with VAR can you?

New Zealand doesn't deserve to go to the World Cup anyways. They only played like 4 or 5 games against heavyweights such as Solomon Islands and Tahiti to get to this one-game playoff.

And then CONMEBOL plays 18 games with 6 or 7 teams in the FIFA top 50 rankings...

Probably best group of attacking talent in the world

Going to bow out early because we've played 5 defenders and 2 DMs

Grey wiggle is a great nickname.

Pretty long odds for the Aussies to make it, and I'm glad they did.

Southgate has no stomach for actual attack.

5 defenders and 2 DMs and they still shipped 4 to Hungary.

Looks like they need to find some defensive talent.

Giggs steps down.

Quote:
Ryan Giggs confirmed on Monday that he has resigned as coach of the Wales national team.

The former Manchester United winger is awaiting trial after being charged with controlling and coercive behaviour and assault against his ex-girlfriend and her sister.

"It has been an honour and a privilege to manage my country, but it is only right that the Wales FA, the coaching staff and the players prepare for the [World Cup] tournament with certainty, clarification and without speculation around the position of their head coach.

Holy sweet hell...I know we want them to get the calls right, but this seems insane to me. Now instead of inches we're going to be measuring in microns?

FIFA has approved the use of its new Semi-Automated Offside Technology (SAOT) for VAR at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

A sensor will be placed in the centre of the Adidas "Al Rihla" World Cup balls, recording data 500 times a second to detect when the ball has been kicked. All players will be mapped to create an AI model of their position -- a similar method to goal-line technology.

"In addition, we know it's very difficult to understand if a player was in an offside or onside position, because the two lines are close to each other. The Semi-Automated Offside Technology can be used to create a new visualisation of close offside incidents with a 3D animation automatically generated, using the same data.
