Stockton beats Bakersfield 3-2

The Heat take a 2-0 lead in the Best of 5 series.

Friday could be a very good night.

In game one of the other Pacific series, Colorado laid the boots to Ontario, 10-1. That game was in Colorado even though Ontario finished higher in the standings because on long-distance best-of-5 series in the AHL, they play 2-3 rather than 2-2-1, so the higher team starts on the road to get home ice for any possible game 5.

Emilio Pettersen was first star for the second game in a row. Leads the Heat in scoring with 3 points in 2 games. He's been pushed down the charts a bit by a few higher profile players, but it looks like he's still a legit prospect.

He finished the season quite strong, good to see him continue his strong play.

I was looking at the playoff format for these AHL series. Some of the best of 5 are scheduled differently. For example: stockton/bakersfield goes the traditional way of the top seed is @home for 2, then away for 2, then @home for the fifth. But the Ontario/Colorado series, the top seed is away away, home home home. Which format favors the top seed more?

I like Mark Binetti. I think he is a real good PBP guy, especially for audio/radio broadcasts. He is very descriptive, and makes you feel like you are immersed in the play. I also like some of his catch-phrases, like "trading paint" for a big hit on the boards or "defeated by 2 inches of iron" for shot off the post

The AHL is essentially 4 mini-leagues of 7-9 teams each. Teams only play their regular season against divisional opponents, so the playoffs are the first time they travel outside their regions.

It'd be interesting to see how the Heat does in later rounds against unfamiliar opponents.
