I don't think it would be wise to risk Ruzicka or Valimaki on waivers.

Even if every team is sending guys to the wire I think there are at least a few teams that would put in a claim for these two.

Phillips and Bunting both have very similar AHL track records.

Last year was the highest scoring year in 20, can the Flames hit 291 goals again?

After the first day of training camp I started to map out where the goals would come from and this is what I think everyone needs to to target to reach the same total offense as last year.

Huberdeau 25 / Lindholm 35 / Toffoli 30
Mangipane 30 / Kadri 25 / Dube 20
Milano 10 / Backlund 15 / Coleman 15
Lucic 10 / Ruzicka 10 / Lewis 5
Rooney 5 / Ritchie 5
Callups 5

Weegar 10 / Tanev 2
Hannifin 8 / Anderson 5
Zadorov 5 / Kylington 10
Stone 2 / Valimaki 3
Call up 1

Total 291

1st line - 34 goals (basically going from 3 allstars to 2 allstars).
2nd line +12 goals (Kadri coming in to replace Backlund)
3rd line + 3 goals (with Backlund hopefully much healthier than Monahan).
4th line + 4 goals (with a full time Ruzicka)
Reserve +10 goals (assuming either we have more IR callups or more impactful trade deadline this year).
Defense + 5 goals (basically swapping Gudbranson for Weegar should come with a small bump).

Is it possible? Who's going to struggle? Or is the offense going to drop off?

I think there is going to be a reduction in scoring across the entire League this year; last year was a weird anomaly that is likely to correct. This will affect the Flames's ability to match last year's totals, but I do think they will still be a top-5 scoring team.

Tanev had 6 goals last year. Only 2 this year?

Had 2 for like 5 straight years before that.

Also thinking about it more like the groups than individuals

L1 90
L2 75
....

So I was kinda saying to keep up the scoring level will probably require the whole lineup including d scoring more.

The math says we should only need to score 82 goals.

Sutter mentioned that he believes dube is a better left winger than a right winger in todays presser.

Wonder if he’ll slot him with backlund-Coleman instead

If Milano gets a contract I think he's bumped into #2LW with Mangi on RW, so that'd put Dube with Backlund and Coleman.

If Milano doesn't make it that shakes things up depending who from the farm does

Assuming Milano makes the team and and signed the turnover from last year will be:

Out: Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Monahan/Jarnkrok, Gudbransen, Carpenter
In: Huberdeau, Milano, Kadri, Weegar, Rooney

That is a lot of talent in and out with a downgrade on the wing and an upgrade up the middle and on the blueline which is why many believe this team is better than before.

From training camp I see it as
Huberdeau Lindholm Tofolli
Mangiapane Kadri (blank)
Dube Backlund Coleman

I think Milano has a great chance at stealing that second line position. Or Dube does and then the third line position is up to Milano/Eakin/Pelletier
