Did anyone happen to watch the Flames game last night on WGN via Gamecentre? The quality was amazing. Better than anything I've seen, even when I had cable.

I watched the Grey Cup this way and the quality was brutal. I am hoping to find some better method by next year.

Shaw offered me 6 months of free cable with the gateway system and after a week I see no real reason to keep cable. There's almost nothing to watch and I am not in Calgary so I don't even get the Flames games. Might be good for football but man was I ever underwhelmed about getting cable back.

I'm with you on that Galakanokis.

I've been feeling the desire to get cable again (it's been a looooong time without) but having channel surfed at my Mom's place the other day I remembered how very little you really get for the money.

I definitely miss having access to 24/7 sports but big whoop. MLB.TV in the summer and NFL Gamepass in the winter (which has been excellent, but you need a DNS change to take full advantage) is enough.

Has anyone updated their app on iOS recently and found that using unblock-us doesn't work? I'm hearing that the app requires you to have location services turned on and it's interfering with using a VPN.

I'm thinking of doing this... Is US Netflix and jail broken Apple TV still options?

I'm surprised my thread is still going. usually they die before page 2!
I'm still very happy to have cut the chord. I got rid of my Terk antenna over the holidays and replaced it with a RCA Ant751 which I mounted in the attic so that I can now pick up Global. So between CBC, CTV and Global (there are only 3 channels in my area), and my Roku 3 with Plex I have more than enough to keep me occupied.

Do you have a specific reason for jailbreaking? You shouldn't need to jailbreak to get US netflix, just sign up for unblock-us (or change the dns yourself).

I just want the best bang for my buck so to speak. I'm not sure what the best way to go is. Just sick of paying $90/month for sat. (Live in country)

unblock us works great...and you can change to multiple countries so you can watch Netflix in many different regions.

Another option is to setup one of my 2 pc's to my main tv? My pc rarely gets used where it is, and could be used as a media server home base?

I also own my a ps3, a wii u as well as a 9242 bell dual pvr which we are using to feed 2 different tv's (second being a small one in the kitchen)

Both have hundreds available.
I have a Roku2xs upstairs and my computer downstairs running plex.
They are connected wirelessly, no need to move your computer if you don't want too.
You can use your ps3 with plex I believe.

Oh my this is a lot to take in...

I'm very excited about losing my 90+ month to have crap.

I'm not sure what I want to with... Apple TV or the Roku. We are an apple family but I don't think that's a huge deal for the TV. I'd rather just have the best experience. My wife likes watching food network. I like the phones to plug into the remote. Cool feature for the bedroom

The combination of unblock-us, netflix, and hulu-plus is really a powerful solution: netflix for all of the past seasons of TV shows and a decent movie collection, and hulu-plus for current TV shows. The whole solution costs you about $20 bucks a month. We went from paying $80 a month on Shaw for our cable, to this $20 solution, and other than live sports, we get everything we watched before, and probably more.

The problem is that hulu-plus requires an american credit card (or at least requires you to make it think you have an american credit card. There are tutorials about how you can do this: http://o.canada.com/technology/perso...lus-in-canada/.
I can't vouch for this process because we have a US card. If you don't want to go through that hassle, then Plex might be a better solution for you, because you can get all the different networks as 'channels', something that you can't do on apple TV. Although setting up all the channels on plex can be its own hassle.

I can't say which is better between an Apple TV and roku. We've got an apple TV, which I went with because it was going to give the best integration with my music collection that's all stored on itunes match, something roku didn't seem to do, at least at the time that I was buying it. Other than Apple ecosystem services like itunes match, I can't think of any reason to go with it over the roku.

No real way to get food network I've found...maybe others have?

Haven't tried it myself, but there appears to be a Food Network plugin for Plex.
