This team has had three top-10 picks in the past four years and now that they're showing some progress and competing for a playoff spot people are angry that they might miss the playoffs and pick 14th?
Teams don't become contenders over night. If they miss the playoffs by a few points then so be it. At least they're showing progress. You don't go from zero to hero in one year. Every elite team today had at least one year where they had to fight just to make the playoffs. It's all about progress, and the Flames have shown lots of it. They're not perfect but come on guys, I'll take a fight for a playoff spot over a fight for lottery odds any day of the week, especially at this point in time.
It's been an odd season, Flames sit in a playoff spot but for me it feels like the season has been a combination of boring and mediocre.
Their current playoff spot is more an illusion than a reality. Teams below them have games in hand, and on a points per game basis, they are realistically in 9th place in the west and falling.
Not good enough.
Also, current prediction is to finish just out of the playoffs:
Just like a car driving by with its petal to the medal.

Didn't expect the Flames to be in serious playoff contention this year, but did think that a decent finish was possible - maybe at best 1 round. With new coaches, new systems and new players, a high-impact year wasn't really in the cards.
Play well. Learn. Put in the effort. (Wins are good too!)

The only team out of the playoffs that could catch the Flames if they had played all the games in hand is Nashville. Those two teams play each other Thursday. If the Flames beat Nashville in regulation the gap is too wide. With help from Vancouver tonight, it's a huge gap.
To clarify this doesn't mean by the end of the season, it's just to play the games in hand currently held in Calgary.
