I have lived in Calgary for most of my life. Been here since 1989 and I can honestly say, I don't miss much from the old Calgary. The Calgary of the last 5 years is way better than the Calgary of the 90s.
I do miss the old Flames Jerseys though and a few old nightclubs from my University days.
New Mac Hall sucks donkey dong, as does the new Den.

My fantasies lied within the worn out pages of the lingerie section.
Approaching puberty, so was I, but as a young child of up to 10 years of age, it was all about GI Joes, Hotwheels, Matchbox, Tonka Toys, and little green army men!
Having NHL players live in middle class communities.
I grew up in Sundance, and in late 80's, Dana Murzyn, Gary Roberts, and McCowan all lived a few blocks from me. Tim Hunter was good friends with my older cousin and dropped by his Shawnessy house during parties.
The media hype around the players wasn't as big back then. I was really lucky to grow up when you could watch these guys play on Ch. 7, then see them wash their car in the drive way the next day.
Amen to this.... Al Macinnis and Dan Quinn both lived in Hawkwood and was the highlight of every Halloween. "Al... are you going to win next game?"

And sometimes you could swear, you could see a nipple outline or landing strip under the white lingerie. Eventually, after staring at the photo for hours, you convinced yourself it was actually there.

Man I was thinking about this the other day. There was a supermarket on 17th ave where there was like a whole row of sodas you could sample (or fill your bottle) out of individual fountains. That was pretty great.
edit: just noticed it was mentioned on previous page. Nice
I preferred how life was when there were no cell phones. When stores were closed on Sunday. When people didn't need a whole slew of electronic gadgets to make themselves feel better. Back when kids actually played outside. Kids rode bicycles. Built forts. Made go-carts. Where this time of the year, every child's fantasies lied between the worn out pages of the toy section in the Sears Christmas Wish Book. Life was simple...

I remember them living there. After we lost to Montreal in the 86 Final, me and my buddy made a couple posters for them. They invited us in and gave us a bunch of signed cards. Super nice guys.
Not sure how exactly I came across this thread, but I am resurrecting it. Anybody miss renting video games and movies? Specifically at places like Game Station, Rainbow Video, & even Mega Movies? Also didn't forget about Blockbuster and picking up games at midnight for release! Some good times renting new SNES or Genesis games. Even better was when you were able to rent out whole systems like Neo Geo, N64, Sega Saturn etc. Best of all...winning the free rental in the gumball machine!

I have fond memories of going to Food City in Temple to rent movies. Now that I have kids the same age as I was when Food City rented moves, I can't believe my parents let me watch some of those movies.
Looks like it is now a Dollarama and a No Frills in that location.
