In most cases, those real consequences are deferred by the 11-month "Transition Period" (sometimes "Implementation Period") during which Britain continues to contribute to the EU budget and be bound by EU rules.
What if there's no deal by the end of 2020?

It's not out of the question: the European Union says the 11-month negotiating time frame is not nearly enough to negotiate a new trade deal, and France's Europe minister warns a chaotic cliff-edge, no-deal exit scenario is entirely possible at the end of 2020.
Under the terms of the divorce deal, the sides can agree to a one-time extension of one to two years, but such an agreement must be made before July 1, 2020.

So the UK is still paying EU dues, is still bound by EU rules, but now gets zero representation in EU parliament. And that arrangement has a high likelyhood of extending into 2021 and beyond. What an amazing deal by Boris

Scotland already has a independence referendum lined up... could be a possible breakup of the UK even without Ireland issues.

They're still part of CETA during the transition period, so you've got time to stock up.

And they will still need to comply with EU standards in the future if they want to sell to them. They literally get nothing out of this

They get to keep brown people and eastern Europeans out.

So that's something.

I would imagine the Canadian Dairy Farmers will object to that, Canada gets nothing out of allowing it nor does the EU, my guess is the UK is booted from CETA some time next week!!

I don't like Piers Morgan at all, but watching him make Matt Hancock squirm like that is just beautiful.

That was excellent. Can't stand these robotics non answers from politicians.

Don't care for Morgan either but he had an interview with Owen Jones (Guardian columnist) on the latter's YouTube channel where despite their political differences they had a very pleasant chat.

It’s amazing how Canadian and US media fail to do this.

You're mostly right but Brianna Keilar and to a lesser extent Jake Tapper on CNN do this a lot.

My wife and I watched a segment together regarding the WE scandal with Pierre Poilievre dragging Trudeau back to the question he was actually asked in the same way that Piers Morgan was to Hancock.

I said "Finally, I am so sick and tired of the 'political' answer being blindly accepted instead of actually answering the goddamn question." My wife thought that Poilievre came off as a bully. So I guess that's part of the challenge. Some people see that behavior as bullying, whereas someone like me feels that offering platitudes in place of an answer shouldn't be allowed to stand as the answer, particularly not when that person is supposed to be accountable to citizens.

Agreed, though Poilievre was just as bad for that when he was standing in for Harper in PMQs back in the day.

Probably the most famous example of this is Paxman asking the then Home Secretary Michael Howard for an answer to a question 12 times.

The UK is now facing its largest single year economic decline in over 300 years. Economists now estimate that Brexit will cost the UK 4 times more than the EU. Good job Boris and Brexiteers.

Dont worry, apparently we in Canada are itching to form a union with the UK and Australia and New Zealand that will solve all the UK's problems (and handily not involve any of the darker coloured Commonwealth countries)
