$200/ticket seems like a steal with a jersey! Everything I heard about the setup at Spruce Meadows was great and it seems like they nailed that.

Should note that the supporters section is for those who like to do the drumming, chanting, singing, flag waving, banner raising type thing. It's just not for those who want to take advantage of cheap seats. It isn't the Saddledome, where one can calmly sit down and spend 2 hours talking about their golf trip to Phoenix...

Here's the pricing structure for Hamilton showing the season ticket price ranges. $199-489. One thing to note is that they're trying to fill a 14000 seat lower bowl, whereas Cavalry will be trying to fill a 5000 seat stadium.

For the Edmonton leg of Al Classico on October 20, FC Edmonton has confirmed with me that Cavalry supporters will be in section 101 of the "big blue" stand. If anyone wants to go up with the supporters, we have event planning going on here: https://www.facebook.com/events/2195706620717910/

There was a bus organized for the last game in Edmonton, but haven't heard if that will be the case for this game.

Valour's season ticket prices have been announced. Numerous sections of tickets are $225. Highest price is $585. All season tickets are under $40 per game.

Hopefully Cavalry will release their stadium plan/seating chart soon, even if they haven't settled on pricing yet. It would be a good way to get people thinking about what they want to buy into, since Meadows on the Green is a bit more of a mystery than most of the stadia used in CPL.

That said, if the price per game is like this and Forge, I'm happy to splurge on a couple of the top-tier seats, provided that their location makes sense and looks like top tier sightlines.

Halifax' season ticket prices are out. In line with Hamilton and Winnipeg.

Some updates on the stadium and ticketing situation, based on the game against Edmonton at the end of September (which served as a dry run for the stadium). Of note:
- The pitch's new drainage system has held up well to the massive October snowfall
- The club will work on improving concessions at half time. Spruce Meadows is not used to having everyone leave their seats at the same time and has acknowledged that.
- The white building on the East side will be removed and in its place will be a 26 row, 4000 seat grandstand.
- Club will start season ticket conversations with members after Rememberance Day. "There are going to be six corporate seats in the grandstand. There’s going to be a variety of seating arrangements, basically starting at $20 per unit for season tickets all the way through."
- League will start play after Easter and will run through the end of October.
- Club has over 1000 members.

I like all of that update.

See, Shermanator. Not always negative.

Nice to see that they are adapting on the fly to a few things (seating preference to the sides vs. ends, concessions, and ticket pricing). And that East grandstand sounds like it will be fairly permanent and will be the "main stand".

Also, fun fact, Cavalry have surpassed FC Edmonton in membership sales. Edmonton is at 945 (as of today) with a 7 year head start; Cavalry passed that total weeks ago.

I used to live in Edmonton and was a STH for the Eddies.
I think the Faths are incredible for supporting soccer. However, I don't see a better business plan going forward for them than what they had before with small crowds.

icon57 Media Rights?

This may be old news to some, but I had just stumbled upon this article from August 2018. I'm wondering if anyone has learned of any updates surrounding a potential TV deal/ media rights? I believe that it is integral for the league to grow and survive in these new markets. I'll still be ordering season tickets, although I'm curious to see what a media deal will look like.

The league gave an update today on things. Some details mentioned:
- Climate provides a challenge for schedule
- League will take breaks during FIFA windows (something MLS does not do)
- Currently working on building an unbalanced schedule (I'm guessing 7 teams and a 28 game schedule based on season ticket info released by clubs)
- League wants 10 teams by 2020, 14 teams by 2024 and 16 teams by 2026.
- USports university draft will be held next Monday, with results being announced Tuesday.

14 and 16 teams seems very ambitious for Canada.

I guess it really depends on how 'big' the league hopes to be. Accounting for the inevitable failure of some markets, you're looking at CMAs in the neighbourhood of 200,000 at the low end. Which seems small, but is still putting you in markets like Saskatoon, Regina, Sherbrooke and St. John's.

And if promotion/relegation is still a thing they want, that also means multiple teams in some CMAs becomes a necessity. Namely, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver. Where the CPL is competing directly against MLS. I don't see multiple teams working well in cities like Calgary or Edmonton.

IMO, 16 is doable for a single league. Add promotion/relegation, and you're probably going to have to be 8/8 or 10/10

I think 16 is absolutely doable when the league has clubs in areas like Victoria and Halifax. It's when they look past 16 into 2 leagues with promotion / relegation that is a little hard for me to envision right now. At the Cavalry launch the commissioner said he was in discussions with 22 markets.

Speaking of, Alex Bunbury has said that he's looking to put a team in the Montreal area. Apparently he also owns a team in Portugal.

Quote:
It’s a future, Bunbury offered, he hopes to be a part of as the Canadian Premier League launches in 2019 and seeks immediate growth.

“I’m working on bringing a team to Montreal. That’s how much I believe in this league,” Bunbury reiterated.

“I’m willing to do whatever I need to do to bring a (CPL) club to a city that gave me so much.”

Just so you're all aware, the CPL - U SPORTS draft is going on right now, and Cavalry FC drew the first pick overall. They picked Gabriel Bitar from Carleton University.
