Trey Flowers to the Lions. Chalk up another 3rd round compensatory pick for New England.

Lots of rumblings that the Packers are hard after Dee Ford from the Chiefs in a trade. After releasing Justin Houston I thought this would be dead in the water but it is actually picking up steam.

Obviously there are a lot of holes to plug on defense for GB, and Ford is a star pass rusher but is a bit weak against the run. I guess you get him to line up outside and then bring back a guy like Clay Matthews on the cheap to play inside with the ability to move around when needed.

This from Peter King on the situation;

Quote:
KING: My guess—just a guess—is the Chiefs would be open to taking a low second-round pick or high three for him. If they got, say, the 60th pick in a defensive-line rich draft, they’d be investing about four years and $4.8-million in cap dollars there (or in a pick somewhere in the first three rounds to replace Ford) instead of the four years and maybe $70-million in Ford … and they’d be able to use their money to go get a needed player at another position in free agency like C.J. Mosley or Earl Thomas. You know what this is, at least in part? It’s the Patriot Effect. You see New England let go of valuable vets every year and still win. I do believe there is some of that in play with teams dangling their franchise guys. Footnote on Dee Ford that should not be forgotten: He led all edge players in snaps (1,022) last year.

This also seems like a terrible contract (unless you're Earl Thomas)

Boy that's a lot of money for a guy that is a liability in pass coverage.

Jets are giving WR Jamison Crowder a 3-year, $28.5 million deal that includes $17 million guaranteed, per source

As seen elsewhere...which one is the best?

1.) 3 year 30 million to Malik Jackson
2.) 4 year 66 million (37 in guarantees) to Trent Brown
3.) 6 year 84 million (45 in guarantees) to Landon Collins
4.) 5 year ~85 million to Trey Flowers
5.) 4 year 54 million (27 in guarantees) to Kwon Alexander
6.) 4 year 36 million to Justin Coleman
7.) 1 year 5.75 million to Danny Amendola

I don't mind the Trey Flowers contract as $16 million a season isn't bad for a pass rusher when you consider Mack and Donald are in the range of $24 million a season. Don't like the Collins and Alexander deals at all.

The winners are the teams letting these guys walk for compensating picks and saving the money

Half these guys will be contract anchors within 2 years

That desean deal is very good for philly

All their current receivers are great possession guys and big bodies, but no one has that breakaway speed, so teams were pushing up their safeties

Cant do that with d jax, even if he doesnt catch a ton of balls, the threat of it will improve everyone else

That's wild money and I like Foles

It came out that they were the only legitimate suitor for him a few weeks ago and he still gets 22 per year and 50m guaranteed

I see most nfl people on Twitter saying they thought the guaranteed money would be what he got on the total value of the deal, something like 3 years 50m, with say 35 guaranteed
