Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
.@CortexBusiness Transaction Alert: The #Flames have assigned Garnet Hathaway to the @AHLHeat.
So room for Jagr on the roster (whether or not he plays still TBD).
But still need to make a move (waiver or trade) to make room for Jankowski.
Sucks for Hathaway, he was one of the VERY few who had a good game last night. Plus the stat last year of the Flames win record with him in the lineup was impressive... 18-5-1 or something wasn't it?

I've heard a couple times he might not play anytime soon. Can someone comment on why that is? I'd heard he's in great shape/excited to get into the lineup
He said in his press conference he might need time before he gets in game shape.

Still takes time to get up to get shape even if you're an accomplished fitness freak. Look at a lot of the Flames players last night, they've had all of training camp and they still looked like sticks in the mud.
Jagr said himself he needs time to get up to speed. And being 45 it may take a bit to get the legs working.

I’m pretty sure that sending Hathaway down was the only possible option, as Jagr’s contract kicks in today, and any other option to send down would have required waivers, and waivers could only happen today, to clear by tomorrow - i.e. not in time.
As soon as Jagr was official yesterday, Hathaway was going to go down today, unless someone was injured. Even if Hathaway scored 5 goals yesterday, he still would have had to go down today.
Well there is... Brouwer, Stajan, Hamilton, Lazar, take your pick. But alas, I know it doesn't work that way. Always given, never earned.
Except in this case it wouldn't work. All the above need to pass through waivers and wouldn't clear until tomorrow, so we wouldn't have been compliant with roster rules. It had to be Hathaway since he already has cleared waivers. It could also have been Tkachuk but that wouldn't happen.
As much as I loved what Matt Stajan has done and has become for the Flames I think it would be best if we somehow amicably moved him somewhere else. To me at this point Janko and Hathaway over Stajan and Brouwer:

Is Tkachuk even eligible for AHL? Thachuk might have been a theoretical option, but if he had to back to Junior, it would be impossible to bring him back up.

I would think, he is assuming a player like Hamilton, Stajan etc could /should have been waived days ago....

Tkachuk turns 20 before December 31. By the NHL/CHL agreement he is eligible for the AHL this season.
