Knights Vegas waives Calvin Pickard

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
More like two or three days...Pickard (VGK) on waivers. See my timeline this morning explaining why:

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Replying to @TSNBobMcKenzie
VGK carrying 3 G right now -- Fleury, Pickard, Subban. Which is not optimal and can likely only last two or three weeks. Fleury is No. 1.

Leafs have also waived Maricin

Calvin Pickard is better than Eddie Lack.

Calgary should get in on this. Pickard actually put up decent numbers in Colorado, considering the team in front of him was an absolute tire fire.

Another head scratcher from GM GM. He really had a great opportunity through the expansion draft and subsequent entry draft and all of the protection and trade possibilities to build a team there and he really seemed to drop the ball on that.

Questionable move. Picard will be claimed...

I'd rather have Pickard than Lack but I just don't see BT making a move like that before Lack has played a single game.

Strange moves by Vegas. I don't really get it.

Yea Im taking Pickard at this point. He had a 9.04 save percentage playing in 50 games on the worst team by a lot in the league. He has a career 9.14 and in 20 games the year prior put up a 9.22

I'd take him Pickard over Lack every single time ~ 4 years younger too.

Yeah no doubt Pickard is a better player, younger, and cheaper too, but the Flames would have to find a taker for Lack. Pickard just about backstopped Canada to gold at the world championships a few months ago.

Also there is the factor of telling a guy to settle in, probably get a home in Calgary, and then giving him his walking papers. Not exactly going to win over the teammates or build a good atmosphere.

Vegas comes off looking terrible in all this... their big preseason promo was to have fans design Pickard's mask. And they could have taken Subban in the expansion draft.

McPhee is coming off as more and more erratic.

How does it work if Calgary put in a claim. How long do they have to clear a roster spot. They’re not going to, just curious

Who could use a goalie?

-NYI, Winnipeg, Carolina, perhaps Arizona or back to Colorado. He'd also be a good backup in TO given McBackup isn't very good

Perhaps they see Subban more marketable in the area.

I'm not wanting any goalie that lets in 91% of the shots he faces. A 9.04 save percentage is horrific.

Yeah, this is a head scratcher for sure. Only thing I can figure is Pickard is unhappy and they can't find any takers via trade. Forced his hand.

Are they still carrying like 9 defencemen?

I thought they would trade one before the start of the season.

For every 10 shots he faces, he lets in one goal. Not the other way around. This means he lets in 10% of the shots he faces, not 91%.

Basing this on zero evidence - but maybe Pickard has attitude issues?

I thought it was inexplicable that Colorado protected Varlamov over him. Now finding it inexplicable that a team would want Subban at the NHL level over him. His contract is fine and so is his play. So what is the deal?
