Is anything other than this thread prompting the speculation that Conroy could be in and Treliving out?

What did Friedman say last night? Was he being speculative or dropping peculiar hints like he seemed to be doing earlier?

The other prospects aren't ready.
The Flames have had weak drafting and development for decades. It's too early to tell if they've turned it around under Treliving. He seems willing to give young players a chance to crack the NHL roster. They just haven't seized the opportunity because they're not good enough.

I'll say right now, it hasn't turned around under treliving.
With hindsight it looks much worse, but the flames are without a second and third round selection in this years draft.
The blackhawks by comparison have not drafted less than 7 times in one draft in the last decade. The Flames have made less than 7 selections in a single draft in 2 of the last 3 drafts.

It would quintessential flames to let a competent GM walk for free in favour of promoting their own guy from within.

When those picks are being traded for 22 year old, elite possession defenceman and #1 goaltenders, that's fine with me.
I do have a problem when draft picks are being used on refrigerators like Hunter Smith or being traded for Bollig, however.

Been in the playoffs 2 of his 3 years as GM. Drafted and traded well. How could they not bring him back? Would be a great disservice if they didn't.

Friedman was just reiterating his perplexity from earlier in the season about Treliving's contract status, and concluded the segment by emphasizing his hope that Flames ownership does not make any rash decisions.

As of right now, the poll is 86, 3 and 113, respectively.
Which means 86 people didn't read all three of the options and 3 people are Canucks fans who want him as their GM.

I wonder if maybe Treliving doesn't want to be back? These people are human and maybe he's pissed that he wasn't given an extension already.
Treliving is essentially a free agent and Terry Pegula has shown that he's willing to back up the Brinks truck right into the driveway of the guy he wants.
Buffalo could definitely sweep in and make him an offer he can't refuse.

Millard also putting Treliving in as a Buffalo candidate.

@darenmillard
names in @BuffaloSabres Paul Fenton, Dean Lombardi, Mike Futa, Chris Drury, Jason Botterill, Brad Treliving for GM.

This just seems too weird/constant for there not to be something to this.

Yup, being upset about a flames sweep makes me a closet oilers fan.
I guess the flames were quite oileresque lately so makes sense.

I will say if there's any smoke to this then Burke has to be out the door as well. I can't see him signing off on this. I tend to think it's just speculation and in the coming weeks things will settle down and Treliving will receive a contract extension.

Why is Burke tied to the decision?
The two seem mutually exclusive.

Flames have made the playoffs 67% of the time since Treliving became manager. That's certainly high for a Flames GM.
