I don't think it's hyperbole to say that Elliott 100% cost us this series.

Agreed, It's 2-2 at worst, 3-1 or 4-0 if we get goaltending.

#1 priority is getting a goalie. MA Fleury is perfect. You get him, let Gillies back up. Parsons starts in the A. Parsons over ripens for a second year while fleury finishes his contract and we have two stud goalies!!!

Or with the luck the flames have they're both Trevor Kidd...

Can someone please remind me how the draft pick works if we do/don't keep Elliott.

We keep our 3rd rounder in 2018. If we re-sign him then St. Louis gets it.

I'd be shocked if we re-sign him.

He is a good prospect but he is still just that, let him simmer in the minors, then bring him up slowly, first in the backup role to an experienced #1 and then eased into the starters role ala Frederik Andersen.

Rushing a goaltender with potential can do the exact opposite of what you hope for them to do.
2nd year pro plus playing as the #1 for three years in college, again, he's 23 years old and by all accounts is now back to normal after surgery and in fact has looked awesome the last two months. Gillies was drafted 5 years ago, at some point you have to start playing them or why bother drafting a goalie at all?
And not sure what you mean by Andersen being eased in, at 22 he arrived in NA, played one season in the AHL and was Anaheim's best goalie the next year until he got hurt,he returned and started 7 PO games.

Of the top 10 goalies in the league last year only one was buried in the minors past age 23 and that player was an un-drafted Cam Talbot.

Like I stated, start with Gillies(assuming a good camp) in a tandem, if he can't handle it you send him down and pick up someone as a stop gap. I swear my head will explode if we sign some old fart goalie like Bishop for huge $$$ or trade for a MAF only to get another Elliott but only worst because they would be long term and very expensive. I would personally rather shore up the top 6 and another dman with that money.

Maybe bring back Hiller and go with Hiller and Elliott?

I really hope we go hard after Grubauer, Caps don't need him and he could be what we need.

Darling or Grubauer with Gillies as backup. I think Gillies needs to be back up next year so Parsons and Rittich can fight it out in stockton. Give Gillies 15-20 games and see what we have.

I'd like to see Gillies on the team next year. Either as a back up, or hopefully he can take the reins and run with it. He's 23 not 18. Let's give him a shot and see how he handles it.

But get rid of Sigalet. How many goalies have come here to fade away since Kiprusoff? At some point maybe it's just more than the goalies. It seems like it couldn't be any worse to try someone different at least.

Gillies needs at least another half season in the AHL. Guys his age need to be playing 40-50 games a season, not playing 15-20 and warming the bench the rest of the time. It's incredibly rare for a goalie with less than 70 games in the AHL to make the jump to NHL backup, and there's nothing to suggest Gillies is an exceptional prospect who's on a faster track than Quick, Murray, Talbot, or Gibson. The guy lost a full year of development, and next season is where he has to make it up.

Seriously, the worst franchise in the NHL at developing goalies shouldn't act as though it's smarter than everyone else and defy the normal path of goalie development, which is 75-150 games in the AHL.

That was like Gio's 9M ask.

The Bishop/Flames contract was rumoured to be somewhere around 6M/6 years.

Bishop won't be (can't be) demanding the same money as last year.

Not a lack of options for goaltending this off season thats for sure.

Although the loss is still fresh in everyone's mind would it be such a bad position to have Elliott and Gillies? Elliot fell apart in the playoffs no question there but he is a #1 caliber goalie that can be had for probably 2 yrs @ 2-2.5 million per. This gives Gillies 2 years worth of back up experience to show what we have and possibly steal the starting spot.

If Gillies were to steal the starting role a 2-2.5/yr backup isn't prohibitive. We also need to address the top 6 RW situation so perhaps bringing Elliot back is the smart choice.

This also opens a spot on Stockton for Parsons for next year since he wont be staying in the OHL. he can battle with Rittich for the starting role there.

People that are saying Bishop, would you be at all concerned about new goalie changes affecting Bishop?

Also would you go for a young goalie or a veteran? We do have Gillies and Parsons, so should we be going for a young goalie?

Not worried about Bishop in that regard any more than any other goalie out there. At least Bishop has a track record of being an elite level NHL goalie while shouldering a starters work load, plus his history shows that he elevates his play come crunch time in the post season.

Goaltending has been this teams biggest weakness all through the rebuild, and it just cost us a playoff series.

We need to stock up until we find the answer and not wait around to see if our goalie prospects actually pan out. As good as some of them are, odds are still against them.

Say everything goes right and we:

1. Sign Bishop and he works as a starter
2. Trade for Pickard and he works as a backup
3. Gillies/Rittich/Parsons take huge steps

Unlikely but if it were to happen what we'd have would be assets that can be used to strengthen the team in another area, or add picks/prospects.

The Rangers turned Talbot into a 2nd and 3rd round pick
The Kings turned Bernier into a 2nd round pick, prospect (Frattin) and back up goalie (Scrivens), they then turned that back up goalie into a 3rd round pick
The Kings also packaged Jones up and turned him into a top 6 forward, the Bruins then flipped him for a 1st and a prospect
The Ducks turned Andersen into a 1st and 2nd round pick

Hopefully if the Flames stock up in this regard they not only end up with a great goalie tandem that won;t lose us playoff games, but also end up with assets they can trade to strengthen the org in other areas.
