Not just a PP, but a 5 on 3 PP!

The Pens' D-zone coverage was AWFUL
The Pens' rebound control left a lot to be desired.
The "puck luck" went all the 'Hawks' way...the Pens either got stoned or flat out missed on at least 3 breakaways/partial breakaways.

Sheary was -5, Sid ended up -4. And the Pens' seemed a step slow, all night long. In the yahoo Game thread, Pens' fans expressed real doubt on their 2nd and 3rd D-Pairs.

Crawford had an excellent game for my guys, and the young guys on Chi's 2nd and 3rd pairs weren't really tested.

It is good to have the NHL underway again...and be back chatting pucks with my friends here at CalPuck.

Good luck to your Flames, I hope that Jagr gels with the young quick guys that you are trotting him out with.

Again, I am working 2nd shifts at the hospital, and will be, mostly, unable to post in GTs in real time.

Hey Foss, your post game commentary is terrific everytime. It's good hockey is back. Rust, Guentzel, and Malkin were all -3. On the flipside, Kane and Hartman were +5 and Schmaltz, Panik, Toews, and Rutta were all +4.

Wow, 10-1 for Chicago. The Bhawks must still be angry that they were swept out of the playoffs. Did the Penguins party it up last after seeing the new SC banner get raised to the rafters? The Predators better be ready when they play the Bhawks on Oct. 14.

Goaltending was front and centre in these 3 OOT games. The Red Wings get a win in their 1st game in the new arena, 4-2 over the Wild. Mike Green had 4 assists and Howard was a stud in net for Detroit, he made 37 saves. The Habs relied on Price who made 43 saves in the Habs 3-2 SO win despite the population growth in Pominville as he scored both goals for the Sabres. Varlomov was impressive making 37 saves in the Avs surprise 4-2 road win over the Rangers. Zibanejad with both Rangers goals.

The Bruins were leading 4-1 late in the 3rd period, the Predators scored 2 quick PPGs to make it interesting. Boston hangs on for the 4-3 win. Krejci gets 3 assists. The Capitals get a 5-4 SO win with it being the OV/Kuzenetsov show in the 3rd period with OV getting a hat trick in that period with his linemate assisting on all of them. The Sens Mark Stone with a pair of goals.

The west coast games were entertaining. The Coyotes had a 4-1 lead midway through the 2nd period over Anaheim and then the Ducks began to fly. The Ducks score twice in 31 seconds soon after to close the gap to 1 and score 2 more in the 3rd period and win 5-4 in reg time. Perry and Rakell get 3 points each. The Kings win 2-0 over the Flyers, Quick with the 35 save SHUTOUT. The Flyers played very well on back to back nights, much better than their state rivals. Lewis and Toffoli scored the Kings goals.

Hawks getting all 10 goals at even strength is tied for 2nd most of all time. The most? That would be our Flames, who scored 13 against the Sharks back in 1993.

The 4 goals Chicago scored during a 3 minute span in the 1st period were more than they scored in the whole series when Nashville swept them last spring.

I remember that game vividly. I think it was 16 different guys registered a point including Reese who was in net. Also IIRC Fleury or maybe Suter was a +7 on the night?
