good, I wouldn't want to do that trade 1 for 1 anyways.

cue the Family Guy mystery box quotes/pictures, but I am just that high on Bennett, I think he is going to be a beast and we would regret moving him, no matter the return

I would be all over trading Bennett for Duchene, but to make the dollars work we would need to convince Colorado to take Stajan as well. Treliving is good, but not that good.

Colorado doesn't care about their cap and Stajan is a FA after this season. Taking Stajan would make no difference to Colorado other then real dollars paid

There is only a small window of opportunity to move Stajan, it would have to happen this week for it to make sense

If our window to win with this top 5 d-core is indeed in the next 3 years, then from that perspective Duchene is a greater 'current window' asset than Bennett.

(This isn't to say the Flames won't be competing beyond then, they likely will, but if Giordano loses another gear in that time or they can't retain Hamonic beyond his contract, then a retool may be required, or you cross your fingers some youth develop into top 3 d-men)

Waiting for Bennett to come along and displace Backlund probably means waiting out that 3 year window to allow him to develop into a bonafide top 6 center. So it depends on if the Flames feel they have a chance to win with the defence they have in place now, and want to take advantage by fast tracking some of that still-developing talent on the front end.

Fun thoughts but at the end of the day I do think they maintain the 'process' and continue to let the current forward core come into its own, regardless of how strong the D will be for the 3 seasons that the top 5 are locked up.

That also said, that 'window' means nothing if neither Smith nor anyone else in the wings steps up to be the starting goaltender this team needs.

Once again, the only sizable gap was the one between Dreger's ears.

Further proof dreger has very few inside connections throughout the league.
I used to see him and Bob McKenzie as equals.

Pretty sure the agent was using Dreger to sound off as a last ditch negotiating ploy. I don't think any less of Dreger for leaking from the agent. Any news is noteworthy at this point in the calendar. Infact, Dreger's leak signalled that the negotiations had really come to a head.
