He certainly will be back. From bottom 5 to playoffs he gets another shot unless the Flames do something stupid like not re-sign Treliving

He will be back. IMO this series really showed what he's lacking though. Great systems guy, but not great at motivating or even managing a game. I know people are going to say motivation comes from the players but there's a role the coach needs to play there. The extra drive and will required for this series was never brought out of them.

I'm looking forward to seeing both Gulutzan and Treliving back next season.

Revolving door does the team no good. Gulutzan is a young coach as well and is in development too. Let's see if he's learned anything next year.

I am amazed, and perhaps it's because the loss is so fresh, but there were a lot of positives this season. I refuse to bring put the noose after losing to the Ducks of all teams.

There's a bit of delusion in the mindset that the Flames were going to have an answer to the Ducks who've owned the Flames for 11 years, in the playoffs.

Anyways, I look forward to seeing the Flames next season with the same crew behind the bench.

The only person on the coaching staff who has not been replaced and should, is Singlet. His tenure has netted zero success. And having Elliott and Johnson flounder as badly as they did at times this season is not a redeeming mark on the resume.

We aren't your Oilers. We here in Calgary don't typically favour burning through coach after coach.

Nope, we save that for goalies.

The season was never going to be easy because of the fact

We didn't have a 1st line RW.
Our 4th line players underperformed (cough Bouma cough)
We didn't have a #4, 5 or 6 defenseman throughout the season

Magically the team performed better when Ferland emerged as being competent as a RW on the first line and when the Flames acquired Stone.

It is hard for goaltenders to stop pucks when the defensemen are terrible. It is difficult to compete when nearly 18 million dollars in cap is tied up in players that are not worth their money. Wideman (5.25), Brouwer (4.5), Stajan (3.125), Engelland (2.917), Bouma (2.2). Brouwer can and probably will bounce back as he wasn't bad before his hand injury. Buying out Stajan and Bouma assuming they are not taken in the expansion draft will save the Flames 3.3 million dollars. Half of that will be taken by Jankowski and Hathaway, leaving 1.5 million or so to be spent elsewhere.

Nothing the coach can do when you're hamstrung by holdovers and bad contracts.

BLOW IT UP!

This young team is clearly not ready after their second time in the play-offs in three years and needs to start again. Johnny for a second. Monahan for a second. Bennett for anyone who can take him!

But fire Treliving first, he'll trade for the wrong seconds.

And have both goalies killed.

And blow up the saddledome for being cursed.

Keep Tre. Bring in a mentor for Gulutzan. He needs a bit of fire and brimstone at times. WAAAAAY too placid and laid back. Dump Sigalet. Dunno about the other two. PP was sorta OK at times, but sputtered a lot too. PK was mostly fine when they figured it out.

Flames needed a lot more passion and another gear. They're mostly pretty young, so that's something they'll learn.

Bummed for now.

Why do you say that. His team outplayed, outshot and out chances the Ducks for the better part of the series. His most questionable decision was his choice for starting goalie tonight. What exactly are we hanging on him, Elliott's save percentage?

Although I don't think he is a good coach, there's no merit in getting rid of him after the past season. The team came back from the bottom to the playoffs, and quite frankly would be advancing to the next round if it wasn't for the worst goaltending performance I've witness in a playoff series.

Can't axe the coach for having a ####ting goaltending situation. That's on the GM, and the GM has to address it if the team is going to get back into the playoffs and actually win at least one game this time.

A RW that can produce with the top line would be nice too.

Gulutzan is a rookie head coach. He made a ton of little mistakes this season and got a fair share of criticism for them, however he worked many of them out in the long run, plus improved the team significantly over last season. He stays put. Get him a better 4th line and goaltending duo and see what he can do next year.

Glen Gulutzen was one of the few rays of light this season. As soon as the goaltending stablized and the top line found their chemistry, this team flourished. Taking Wideman out of the lineup was a pretty helpful as well.

But, Gulutzen should be commended for sticking to it and taking this team to the playoffs after another terrible start. It's not Gulutzen's fault that his goaltender decided to revert to peewee status in the most important time of the season.

Only when we don't have guys like Kipper and Vernon. But yeah, get this parade since 2013:

Joey MacDonald
Danny Taylor
Leland Irving
Karri Ramo
Reto Berra
Joni Ortio
Jonas Hiller
Nicklas Backstrom
Brian Elliott
Chad Johnson
Jon Gillies
David Rittich

12 goalies in four years. Ouch.

  • Doesn't call time-outs to get his team composed
  • Doesn't tinker with the lines
  • Career lows for many key players
  • Doesn't pull the goalie when needed
  • Had to "simply" his system to save the season
  • Has never won an NHL playoff game
  • Never won a championship at ECHL or AHL level
  • He averages less than 0.500 hockey at the NHL level
The Flames were at one point in the system the worst team point percentage wise. He got some mid-late season hot goaltending and special teams. Otherwise the team was bad to mediocre all season
