Sort of reminds me of Chris Clark going to Washington, but the Caps are a lot better team now than then, and Hathaway plays kind of like Clark, good luck to him.

Glad he got a nice contract. Glad Calgary isn't on the hook for it.

Four years for Hathaway.
Good work, young man.

Really happy to see Hathaway get a contract like that the guy has worked incredibly hard and it has paid off. I'm gonna miss him on our team though

I would have been ok with the Flames offering that deal. Long term but can mostly be buried if needed.

That’s a bad loss I think. Tough to replace what he does for that price. Good luck young man!

I would have paid $1.5m for Hathaway, but only on a one-year deal. Can't fault him for taking that security.

Well, here's hoping Hathaway goes from a 4th liner to taking away the "C" from Ovechkin, and becoming a 30 goal scorer in Washington (which, for those not familiar with the story, is what Chris Clark did in '07).

I really came around to loving Hathaway this year, and 1.5m is exactly where I had him at going forward. But 4 years, I can understand Calgary not wanting to do that. 4th line is exactly where you want to have guys on league min or ELC deals.
Happy for him getting some term, and getting to play on the east coast where he's from

I would have been more than fine with that term/dollars.
Even if he fades in years 3 and 4, you can easily bury/buy out that contract. It's not an anchor.
Disappointing because he was one of the few players who elevated their game in the playoffs. It'll be tough to replace him, especially as we have nobody in the organization that fits the bill as a similar type of player.

I’m a big Hathaway fan, but 4 years is too long. I’m happy for him though that he got it.
Wilson and Hathaway on the same roster will be interesting to watch.

You don't give 3rd/4th liners 4 year deals

Ah the more I think about it the more I wouldn't have hated that contract if it was here. At 1.5m you can still bury it in the AHL with next to no consequence. I'm not too upset about losing him, but it wouldn't have been that bad

Was a fan of his for a long time. Sad to see him go but happy he cashed in on a deal with term. Plus I don’t mind the Caps so it works out.

Sad to see him go, but I am happy for him. It's not too often that players who sign AHL deals eventually work up to being a an NHL player. Four years is huge for him.
