Default Information You Seek? Wolfram Alpha

I've been screwing around with this site all morning and it's pretty cool. It's almost like Wikipedia, but it's more numerical and factual.

Information geeks will get a big kick out of playing with this site:

I was playing around with it the other day, it's like a highbrow Wikipedia. It's funny though, much like twitter there is so much hoopla about new sites but at some point you say....what is this for and why do I need it?

Though, this is a neat tool.

For some reason using it I feel like the Captain from WALL-E.

Define earth...

Wolfram Alpha is weird. Everything is returned as an image, so font rendering looks off on some systems. It's totally run by geeks though. Check out the answers to these two questions:

What is the meaning of life?
What is the speed of an unladen swallow?

It knows those two, but chokes on many mundane things. Still, it's a good start.

I wish I had this when I was in Calculus. I still got an A, but this would have made it way easier!

If you enter a set of ingredients and their weights (eg from a recipe) it generates a label just like you see on packaged foods. That was one very impressive demo that I saw.

It went something like "1 kilogram of potatoes + 0.75 tbsp olive oil + ......"

Really cool. A baby step at trying to guess intent with a query.
