Me. I haven't liked the character for a while but I feel they missed the mark if they were trying to gut punch fans as they pretty well ignored him all season. I think we all know how TWD works in that the episodes are all largely filler until the last episode or two of the half season where they actually progress the story line and kill off a major character for shock affect at the end to keep you interested in tuning in for the next half season so they can repeat the cycle. The problem is that Carl was largely ignored this season so what's the shock in killing off a character that barely got any air time in the previous 7 episodes? Really his death is nothing but window dressing seeing he wasn't involved in the story anyway. When characters like Father Gabriel and Gregory are getting more air time you know Carl had jumped the shark.

I'm betting that this is more of a life issue than an actual character progression. Riggs was growing up too fast for the time line of the show.

She got the drop on Aaron and was about to kill him. Enid came up behind and shot her. Then everyone was sad. Whereas my reaction would have been, "go #### yourself, she was about to murder my friend, of course I shot her. She very much needed shooting."

Apparently the kid's dad is pretty upset his kid got wrote off the show. Seeing how Judith has grown Carl aging seems totally inline so I don't see that as a reason to kill him.

Whelp...
There goes the theory that Carl had some sort of "gene" in which he'd be immune to the bite and then become an even bigger part to the storyline. Carls blood being an antibody for the walker problem...
Man the wife is going to be disappointed to hear this!

Well, they didn’t actually show him die yet so you never know.

Yeah exactly... I have never heard that theory, but Carl's not dead yet, so if you thought that was the case, you could plausibly say "they're just throwing us off, he's actually going to live through it". But you might say, he looks terrible! Look at his face! To which my answer would be, if I were a proponent of that theory, that it was shellshock. He was just in a war zone with grenades detonating all around him.

I think in the comic books Carl dies and becomes a friendly walker who helps the main group, kind of like slimmer in the ghostbuster cartoons.
(In all seriousness I haven’t read any of the comics so if my joking theories turn out to be true it is purely coincidental)

I don't know what was detonating around him but they were not grenades.
At this point I am 50/50 on Carl living.

Okay, well, whatever then, explosive ordinance of a sort that was able to immediately destroy houses and cars.

I am actually kind of surprised how panned that episode was on here. I thought it was better than average, but that might just be because I find Negan's scenes carry the episode.
I am surprised though that a walker would take down Carl, after everything he has already been through.
He seemed to have been acting kind of strangely that whole episode though. Writing the letters; planning on going away; offering himself as a sacrifice to Negan; etc. That kind of why I thought he got bitten much earlier and was covering it up until he started looking ghoulish in the sewers.

Frankly I wish random, stupid mistakes led to bites more often. That'd be a huge issue even after the first chaotic days when things settle down and become routine. You let your guard down for five seconds and bam, bitten on the ankle or something.
