I think Canada is a much better place to raise kids than the US.

I’m pretty sure they would be incorporated and their incorporated company would be the one getting paid? Perhaps someone who has more knowledge on this can share their thoughts. I’ve lived in various parts of the US and Canada….I have never seen a major tax difference.
The other thing to consider is there are taxes other than income tax. Most of the no tax states have high property taxes.

Unless you enjoy a war zone I think the biggest craphole NHL city in Canada(Edmonton-Winnipeg) is a better city than any city in the US to raise your kids.

Still not even close to the tax savings on income, owning a $2m home in Vegas will cost you about 40k more in property taxes than in Calgary but if you earn $5m in salary you'll save about $300k in income taxes.

LMAO. I'm calling 100% bull#### on this statement.

I'm convinced that some of you have never been to the United States based on some of these statements.

Edmonton better than ANY American city? Puh-leeeze.

Exactly. The country as a whole is going in the wrong direction ... and we see the worst in the media ... but there is still no shortage of idyllic communities in the US.

I think Canada is a better place to raise children for low income families. For wealthy families the US has far more to offer IMO.

This is probably true based on the health metrics alone for low income Americans. Wealth disparity is probably the biggest issue in America, but for those that can afford nice things, the quality of life is extremely high.

Now, we should probably get back to talking about hockey.

We are, it’s quite the parity issue if most players won’t play for Canada based teams when given the choice.

I think this is the reason Canadian teams consistently struggle. Seth Jones is considering Chicago, no Canadian teams likely. Stone wanted to go to Vegas, not a Canadian market. Adam Fox didn't want to play here, he preferred New York... it goes on, and on and on. It is the biggest reason a Canadian team hasn't won the cup since '93.

This is a cringe-worthy statement. You need to get out more - America has some amazing cities. As a proud Canadian it pains me to say this, but none of our cities can really offer as much as the best American cities... unless (as another poster said) you're poor... then your sol and no one gives a #### about you there.

If you are a multi-millionaire like NHL players are (or wealthy in general), you are getting the best the US has to offer by living there. It's very laughable and straight up BS somebody would willingly choose Winnipeg or Edmonton (even Calgary) over being rich in once of many luxurious communities in the US in some of their premier cities.

Like, common.

For regular middle-class people, yes. But for the very wealthy, things like public schools, public transit, street crime, etc don’t matter. They live in enclaves where the downsides of American cities are invisible and irrelevant.

NHL GMs know Canadian cities are at a serious disadvantage when it comes to attracting and keeping players who have options, even if Canadian fans can’t bring themselves to acknowledge it.

With money you can live in whatever bubble you like. For an athlete or celebrity living in a bubble is probably a must anyway for privacy, but I wouldn’t want to live that way.

Friedman sure had a lot of thoughts regarding the US/Canada tax codes.

Bot the US and Canada are huge cities and the experience one has living in either country is unique to the individual. Let's say we skip the generalizing and focus on hockey. IMO both are great countries to live in.

Actually he was merely quoting a GM who spoke to him about it.
