I wouldn't, I will take Hyman all day over Taylor Hall.

I'd take that all day on the Flames. Oh well.

It's an OK deal. Hall didn't impress me much in the POs, and certainly has had a bunch of bad seasons.

Absolutely. That contract might take a hit in the latter part but Hyman is a $6M player imo. 25-30 goals, plays a solid two way game, plays with an edge, and plays hard every night. I think he would quickly become fan favourite here.

Winning gets people to sign discount deals.
If any Canadian city could build a dynastic winning culture, star players would sign for cheaper to be part of it.

He hasn't really. Outside his short stint in Buffalo and a couple seasons early on with the Oilers, he's always been above a 60 point pace (and obviously reached well above that a few times).
For a player like Hall, 6M is a great deal. Worst case he probably meets his contract value, best case he far exceeds it. His playoffs weren't overly impressive, but they signed him to be a second liner and he played like one.

There goes Oilers fans hopes of Hall returning as if that ever had a chance. This is a pretty good contract but the reality is that Hall isn't an elite player anymore.

When boston offers big name players fair contracts they are almost always going to say yes. Calgary probably wasn't far down his list compared to other players but still, Boston is a better New York when it comes to desirability for hockey players.

But but he was going to sign a discount to come home to Edmonton and play with the McGodlikefigure.
It was a sure thing, guaranteed written on the box. What happened?

Kind of amusing he's done nothing but make 6 million bucks a year, almost every year of his career.

Signing that one year deal with Buffalo really hurt Hall on a lot more potential earnings.
Good deal for Boston though.

Listening to NHL network on XM radio today they were saying the deal way 6yrs x 4 million. This makes alot more sense, I was thinking Boston got a sweet deal

The sub par seasons have all been lately, which is troubling. Injuries haven’t helped, but IMO he just isn’t the same player any more. I was in for a Gaudreau for Hall deal a couple years ago. But not any more.

Not none for none.
2020 conditional 1st. 2021 3rd. Nate Schnarr, Nick Merkley, Kevin Bahl. NJ still has some seeds that could grow into a trade tree from the Arizona trade. Edmonton has dirt.

I remember some posters defending it saying that it was perfect for Hall to sign a 1-year show me deal with ice-time gifted to him alongside Eichel, put up some points and go to a contender and make a good run, then sign an even bigger contract the following off-season when covid died down. Some people called it a genius plan.
It was a high risk/high reward plan and it doesn't appear to have worked out like Hall and his agent planned.
I can't help but feel him and his agent #### ed up by not going bigger last summer and gambled on a bigger contract down the road. I get that covid is/was a thing at the time, but still have to feel that Hall lost out on some money in the long run.
Still, 4x6M is nothing to sneeze at and still sweet coin. That would have been an amazing contract with the Flames. Maybe he's just playing to get his cup and help his team out, which is cool too.

Definitely not lately. His stint in Buffalo was bad, but since his 93 point season that’s the only time he’s been sub par (unless you have a different definition for sub par for a guy making 6M).
I think we would’ve regretted a Gaudreau swap in either case. But Hall appears to be the exact same player he’s always been. Which is a good, rarely great, but also rarely bad player.
