I'm shocked the Kraken are wasting picks on UFAs. Take a player and then get these guys as UFAs. Stock up on bodies and trade them off for picks during the summer. You have a 50 body limit, use it.

If they are signing them in their exclusive expansion draft window it counts as their pick from that team and they can't pick anyone else off that team.

That’s probably the biggest gut shot the oilers could have taken. Outbid by a hundred grand.

Pass the hollandaise sauce!

It's the Oilers. Maybe they've given the Kraken something extra not to choose Cooper Marody.

I'm also struggling to understand why they would take a UFA when they could just sign them in a couple days anyway. The only thing I can think of is that they think they can get a discount now compared to the open market.

They will survive without Tyler Benson. Dallas and Edmonton had 2 brutal lists to pick off of

As their second pairing it’s solid. Let’s see who they get as a top pairing because none of the guys I can think of who are unprotected are top pairing guys, including Giordano, at this stage of their careers. If Oleksiak is on the bottom pairing that would be ideal.

You still need minor leaguers for depth in this league. The Kraken are choosing the players that will establish the foundation of their organization. That includes prospects and minor leaguers that can be called up if needed. Tyler Benson AND Adam Larsson is much better than just picking Adam Larsson, who you could have got for free in a week.

Inclusive signing window, they probably view Larsson as the best player available.

When I was doing a mock draft, Dallas was impossible to pick from. I just ended up picking an AHL goalie to meet the goalies picked requirements.

I think it's nice for the Kraken to have players at the event to model the jerseys. Plus, they get exclusive negotiation rights

And right on cue the Edmonton fans are trashing Larsson on Edmonton radio this morning. One fan calls in and laughingly asks the hosts what the over/under is on How many times McDavid turns Larsson inside out this season. Wasn’t it just last week when they all thought he was signing up there that they were all raving about what a great shutdown Dman he was? Now he’s garbage. Never change Edmonton!!

Congrats to Larsson and his family. It must feel great to be freed from that dumpster fire of a franchise.

There were rumors that Vancouver was also going to take a run at Larson. I guess it comes down to grabbing the depth player and entering competitive bidding on the veteran they want or just signing the veteran while they get the chance.

Larson was going back to the Oil for 3.9 and Seattle offers slightly more and they get him. Who is to say if another team who loses a Dman tonight would come with a 5x5 deal?

This is what Vegas did with Engelland. I think teams believe these exclusive negotiating windows are worth something and getting a player locked up before rest of the league can swoop in is worth a random AHLer.

Although the calculation is not as simple as where the the player plays his home games, Larsson will pay less income taxes in Seattle, as Washington does not have a state income tax. If a person earned a $4,000,000 USD in Seattle vs. a $3,900,000 USD in Edmonton, he would earn $400,000-500,000 more in Seattle, depending on marital status, dependents, etc. This does not take into consideration any sales taxes or costs of living.

The two Alberta teams used to have the lowest income tax rates until the Bush tax cuts expired. Florida, Tamp Bay, Vegas, and Seattle are now the lowest, with a 36.11% federal tax rate, and no state tax. Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa are the highest, with a marginal tax rate over 52%. Calgary and Edmonton have a marginal tax rate of over 47%.

Pressure on the Flames to kick in a 2nd round pick for the Kraken to take Gio.
