I don't know much about basketball but I feel like Jamal Murray going down to injury really hurt their chances. Still should have won today but if he had played he would have helped their 3 point shooting today.

Next Olympics if everyone is healthy their is no way they don't make it, and be a top team there.

That was so tough to watch that lead slip away in OT. Had they managed to pull it out in OT and go on to qualify for the Olympics, that final minute of the 4th could have become the all-time iconic moment for the national basketball program.

It's so important for the program going forward that these young guys (Wiggins, Barrett, NAW) come back next time. I don't think it got much attention that Cory Joseph was the only guy to play in both the 2019 worlds and this tournament. Hard to build any chemistry with that level of inconsistency in the roster. I hope at least that this was a good learning opportunity for them and they realize how important playing the full 40 minutes is in this sort of tournament.

Qualifying for the next Olympics begins next year with the Americas qualifying tournaments for the Worlds. We need to qualify for the Olympics through the worlds next time and stop putting ourselves in unnecessary must-win situations. At least we should move up the world rankings a bit with our win over 6th-ranked Greece, but missing out on even getting to the finals of this tournament limits how much we can move up. That world-ranking is important because it goes into the draw for groups and tournaments like this. Had we won more games in recent years and moved ourselves into a higher world-ranking, we wouldn't have gotten slotted into a draw with 3 top 15 teams. One good international tournament would change the fortunes of this program so much.

The U19 team is exciting too. Elijah Fisher is such a high-level talent, and there are a bunch of other great guys on the team... and they're missing Josh Primo who's in the NBA draft process and is the top guy we have at that age right now. And with three guys who likely will measure 7'0 or better, it's a group with really great size. Hopefully a couple of them reach their potential and help fix the size deficit we have on the senior team.

continuity is really important for sure...with Canadian basketball's rise, I do think it will come with time...

Losing Jamal Murray and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was a huge blow as both are NBA all star caliber players....not to discount what RJ, NAW, Wiggins, Dort, Joseph, Lyles and Powell brought, those two are just at the next level.

On the plus side, some of the younger guys you mention, like Houstan, Fisher, Edey, the Nembhards, the Bediakos, Sharpe will also graduate to the senior team (Edey is 7'3" which might have been useful verus the Czechs)

But a lot of pretty young guys - Murray, SGA, NWA are sort of contemporaries, then RJ and Dort then the U19s... So long as you are able to get 75% of that group (on a rotating basis) out the next 3 years to build up to qualifying, you have a chance to build more continuity.

On the plus side, the majority of these kids are from the GTA, so they have played together before in summer ball and also on the U19 teams.

Certainly, when you add it the existing guys like Wiggins, Powell, Lyles and Joseph, that's a very deep pool...just need to play together more to build the so called culture...

Its a shame this happened during Covid as they were not able to get in as much pre-tournament practice time, nor did they have a real home court advantage....When this was announced, my friends and I were thinking about making a road trip out to Victoria for it, which didn't happen sadly

The Czechs smoked the Greeks by 25 in the final, which sucks even more

well, I was hoping for the senior team as the team being discussed... However, the U19 team is playing well.

They just beat Spain in the quarterfinals 81-77 to advance to the Semis...

Nice to finally get a game that will be on during the daytime. Going to be tough beating the US. The US hasn't been in any close games thus far while Canada's been in several, so hopefully they can keep close and then ride a bit more experience here to a win.

It's pretty wild that the next three 1st overall picks may be on three of the final 4 teams (Holmgren on the US is ranked 1st next year, Wembanyana on France the year after, and then Fisher on Canada the year after that).

That was a close game, closer than I expected — a good fight from Canada, particularly in the fourth.

Grab that bronze tomorrow.

Yeah, good effort but all those missed free-throws early really ended up being a big part of the difference.

Going to need to have elite perimeter defense against Serbia, they've got a few of the top shooters in the tournament.

Excellent effort!

Watching the finals now, and Wembanyama is insane, especially considering that he's a year young than most of the Americans. He's going to be a really special player when he gets to the NBA.

a bit late response.

Tough loss to the US; though I don't understand how Canada and the US are in the same side of the draw? These two are ranked 1 and 2 in the world at this age group, so they should have been on opposite sides... The US is very good though, so losing to them wasn't unexpected.

Great win for the Bronze Medal... I am a big Michigan fan, so I am excited to see how Houstan does at Michigan next year. Edey is going to be a very good play for Canada (and Purdue) going forward - lots of room for his game to grow.

Mathurin was impressive today (better than versus the USA)...there's a ton of other kids that the senior team can tap into, including Primo, Andrew Nembhard and Marcus Carr, Quincy Guerrier, AJ Lawson who are all prepping for the draft
