IMO TSN is getting what they're willing to pay for in the alberta market though. No slight to Valji but this was clearly a promotion for him so likely he was less expensive than other options.

Listen to 1-2 of his podcasts and tell me he's not passionate about hockey.

I am not a podcast listener, can you share a link? Perhaps it's his delivery on air then for me, I just don't feel it.

Passionate and Smart are different things. Just look at Edmonton fans.

I believe Salim is a born and raised Oilers fan so that explains things. I haven’t been even mildly impressed since he took over for Jermaine

Sorry if already posted, but something interesting from this morning:
Dreger on TSN1050: "Starting to hear the whispers again of the future of their captain Steven Stamkos in Tampa Bay."
I know it’s been talked about before and it didn’t happen, but it definitely could this time around. Tampa Bay is in cap trouble, and Stamkos MAY be one of the odd ones out. He’s one they could get value for.

Dreger is out to lunch. Why would Stamkos waive to go anywhere else?

Unless they could promise the softest most desirable landing for him (outside of staying put) then yeah, doubtful.

Well, Replacing Derek Ryan seems like what he was getting at. Are the Flames comfortable at all gifting Ruzicka that spot?

Maybe I’m off my rocker, but I think Stamkos would. And with our luck, it’ll be Vegas from a trade where they get rid of some space from Lehner/Fleury and someone else.

I don't think Salim is off at all.
Those players he listed are exactly the type of players you find on the 4th line of Darryl's teams. That's how he likes his 4th line: responsible defensively, with some size and an ability to play a heavy grind it out type of game. If they can kill some penalties, even better. Most teams trying to win will also have these type of players on their 4th line.
The 4th line is not the place for rookies learning the game. The AHL is where rookies need to learn the game. Ruzicka should not be centreing the 4th line in Calgary. He should be playing 20 minutes a night in Stockton developing to the point where he supplants Monahan or Backlund in the top and middle 6. Gawdin on the other hand, who actually projects as a 4th liner, should be the 13th forward learning from a guy like Trevor Lewis and playing 30 or 40 games. I don't want to see Phillips on the 4th line, that's not where he belongs, he should be playing higher up in the lineup. I also don't want to see guys like Simon or Leivo, who are ill equipped to play a defensive grinding style on the 4th line. Ideally, Pospisil is ready by the end of next season cause he is perfect for that 4th line; he may even have some middle six potential.
Ritchie was a good 4th liner last year and I'd like to see him back. A guy like Trevor Lewis absolutely should be signed for that 4th line centre spot. I'd also target a guy like Cedric Paquette, a 27 year old, good sized 4th liner who has played many playoff games for the Lightning and won a cup.
The top 6 needs upgrading, but so does the 4th line.

I don’t think Stamkos is anything special anymore. If he was Tampa wouldn’t let him go.

Apparently the Canucks have made offers to Hamonic and Edler.
I am calling it now. If Gio is in Seattle and Edler makes it to July 28th he will become a Flame and be the veteran top 4 replacement.

Yup exactly why I think that. Edler may rethink coming here this time around with Markstrom, Tanev here in addition to Backlund, Lindholm, Andersson etc

If Vancouver made an offer to Edler he will take it. The guy doesn't want to play anywhere else according to past reports.

I agree with you but if he does hit the market I think he comes here (assuming Gio is gone). I tend to think he doesn’t hit the market however

Dreger said on Insider trading that both sides are not even close in contract negotiations and the Avs position needs to change drastically or Landeskog will test free agency.
