Dont think Lucic is tradable anymore. Unless he has super good ties within the Kings organization. And did he jive well with Mclellan?

Kings take Lucic and retain salary?

Cmon guys, let's get real. Any team with interest in Kovalchuk beats that offer by a mile, sitting him in the pressbox for 2 years would beat that offer.

I'd have absolutely no issue with Kovalchuk if the Flames could somehow offload Lucic for him, but I can't see any desire from LA's perspective to add two additional years of huge money into the payroll, even if they are familiar with Lucic.
I don't think the Kings would do that trade, unless the amount of salary retained/other considerations would make sense for them.

AFAIK, you can't share the cap hit from a Lucic buyout, which would be the ideal scenario for both teams and nets LAK a pick for their trouble.

The PP2 I'm thinking of has:

Andersson
Hanafin-Kovalchuk
Bennett-Ryan

You would get shots from the right side of the ice into Bennett's corner that he can retrieve and cycle back to the point.

Janko and Lucic for Kovy would be a great deal

If he can't play for and help the King's, no way he can help the Flames. DO NOT WANT!

Ryan didn't outscore Kovalchuk last year, or ever.

I'll endorse the Jankowski + Lucic, for Kovalchuk idea. If LA were to agree, just can't see Kovy waiving to come here.

Would you trade a first and Lucic with some salary retained for Toffoli and Kovalchuk?

Obviously there would have to be other moves for cap implications. But would you do it?

If the term was the same on Looch and Kovy I prefer Looch but saving 3 years of term on the contract would be too good to pass up

I could see that Kovalchuk refused to waive his NMC, so they are sitting him in hopes he either waives or goes back to Russia.

Kovalchuk's contract is interesting. Because of his signing bonuses he 'only' has roughly 4.75M total on his contract in actual pay for the next 2 years, including only about 500,000 owing to him this year. It's not nearly as big of an albatross as you would find with other 6M contracts like Lucic and Neal (pre-trade).

Ryan had 38 points last year to Kovalchuk's 34. Ryan played 1118 minutes to Kovalchuk's 1039.

Kovalchuk: 1.96 P/60
Ryan: 2.04 P/60

And this is with Ryan playing with a greater allotment of defensive zone starts and additionally returning far superior Corsi output

I get weird Gaborik-to-Ottawa vibes from this, but that seems very unlikely to occur. Maybe Colorado makes sense, what with all their injuries and cap space?

Okay, I guess the signing bonus was due December 15, 2019 and not this summer so that changes things a bit (at least for the next month).

I wonder if a straight problem-child for problem-child trade in Eriksson for Kovalchuk would be discussed? Both have high signing bonuses but if Eriksson's is paid and Kovalchuk's hasn't been, the money is pretty close with Eriksson's spread out over three years and Kovalchuk over two.

I would hope both teams lose that trade but seems more realistic than them taking on Lucic to get rid of Kovalchuk.
