Lots of speculation concerning Brian Burke’s future in CGY and whether he may move on to new ventures/challenges. The principals involved did not respond to inquiries.

Good. Not really sure what he has done here other than poorly influence the first draft he was here for.
Hiring Traveling is about it.

Burke doesn't even talk to the media anymore, which is honestly why I thought the Flames hired him.

Hope so. Team needs to get faster and more skilled in the bottom six. Burke's skilled top 6 big grindy bottom 6 philosophy doesn't work.

Honestly though, they should just put Conroy in Burke's position, if they want a guy who loves to talk in that role.

The Flames hired him because the owners finally realized that they have no idea how to hire a general manager.

Why do people always forget that he held the same job at the Herald as well?
Anyway, the Sun-Herald (two papers with a single newsroom, now there's a brilliant idea) isn't hiring. Their next publisher will be the janitor, who will have the job of turning all the lights out.

Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation announced today that President of Hockey Operations, Brian Burke, will be stepping back from the organization effective May 1, 2018.
"When Brian came to us in September 2013 we discussed a structure and timeline of four to five years for his new role. Each year we review our mandate going forward and determined together that we would move on," said Ken King, CSEC President & CEO.
"Brian's leadership and guidance of our hockey operations and work with General Manager Brad Treliving have been exemplary and we are grateful for his contributions. His charity work and organizational representation in our community are legendary as he has touched so many with his generosity."
Flames hockey operations will operate under the direction of General Manager Brad Treliving, Vice President of Hockey Operations Don Maloney, and Assistant General Manager's Craig Conroy and Brad Pascall.

In a more serious note I would offer the gig to Al Murray, Former head scout of team Canada, currently the Director of Amateur Scouting for the Tampa Bay lightning. It would signal a significant shift in direction that would impact the organization on every level.

What a meaningless tweet. Is he changing jobs or titles? Is he retiring? Is he just reducing his hours?
I guess it means he's not going to another team, but that's as much as I can take from that.

No surprise. Him not being present for the coach firing/hiring was writing on the wall.

What does "stepping back" mean? Does that mean he'll still have some role with the Flames? Weird wording if he's resigning.
I'd expect Maloney to take over his duties going forward (whatever they were).
