This reply makes no sense.
We're talking about the Oil moving down 2 spots. They aren't going to get much more than a Wotherspoon level prospect or a 2nd round pick if they choose to move down a few spots. IF they are targeting one of the 3 Dmen in the draft then it only makes sense to drop down and take an asset in the process.
Wotherspoon + Chychrun > Just Chychrun
...no matter if you think Wotherspoon's ceiling is a #6 Dman or not.

If Dubois is gone at 6 Brown is a no brainer. After watching U18 highlights this guy is going to be the real deal.Brown is a Burke type player and would look pretty damn good in our top 6.Brown seems to be more of a playmaker and I see Bennett as a sniper so I think that combo could turn out to be deadly together.I think Bennett looks better on the wing anyways and to have a 6'6 body down the middle would be great. If you can play Center you can play wing so to those of you that say we have too many C's already I think that is a really good problem to have.

1) trade forwards (Eberle, RNH, Yakupov) for a solid defensemen. AND
2) with whoever's left from the pile above after the first trade, use them to get a 2nd, lesser defenseman AND
3) try to sign a UFA D-man, AND
4) make the trade with Calgary (or someone) to get a Wotherspoon type return now AND
5) then draft a defensemen with their 6-10 overall pick (and probably their top 3 picks).
No, drafting a defenseman won't solve their problems. But it will help with the problem in the fufure - they need to build a stable.
No, Wotherspoon won't solve their problems this year - but he would help add depth, something they desperately lack.
If they did all 5 things above, they would still be weak on D, but they will have gone a long ways towards fixing the problem.

I don't want to derail this thread, but what you are proposing they essentially did last year when they picked up Reinhart(although gave up way too much). Here is there D depth:
Sekera
Klefbom
Davidson
Fayne
Gryba
Nurse
Clendening
Hunt
Oesterle
Reinhardt
Simpson
They have 2 top 4 D and a bunch of 5/6/7/fringe guys. They need a top pairing D and another 3/4 guy. They aren't going to trade down from the #4 spot for a guy who is projected as another 5/6/7 guy.
Also if they end up trading 2 or 3 forwards to add to their D depth, they are probably going to try and fill the forward depth with that #4 pick over trading down for a #6/7 D.

If you're calling that ^ a depth chart, I guess we can agree to disagree.

Hey, it is a depth chart. It's a laughable depth chart, and shows a maximum depth of about an inch and a half, but a bad depth chart is still a depth chart.

Let's compromise and call it a lack of depth chart.

I strongly disagree. I see a 3rd line C in Brown but that is my opinion. The absolute two guys I don't want to see the Flames draft at 6 is Chychrun or Brown. I can live with anyone else.

Calgary would still have 7 picks in this draft while potentially walking away with another one of the listed players in this poll. (Jost, Brown, Keller)

Putting all your crap into one bag just makes a big bag of crap. At best this will get you a pick at or near the end of the first round.

I'd do those 4 picks for a mid first and take Gauthier.

An idea from another thread.

Seems like wishful thinking to me but you never know. I'd much rather have 22 than two 2nd's but I guess it all depends on how a team views the draft.

According to this, it would get us about 19. According to this, it's actually worth about 5.
So basically, based on the historical behaviour of actual GMs vs. statistical success rates of players, we are unlikely to get a worthwhile deal moving up. Keep the picks and hope your scouting comes through.
Edit: wrong thread.
