It really depends what the bonuses are. What was Tkachuk's cap hit in his rookie year over and above his base $925? No way that Foo has anywhere near that kind of year.

In his rookie year, Tkachuk only qualified for half his performance bonus money ($425,000). He was on pace to get full bonuses last year, but because of his injury, he fell short on a couple and also would have only earned half. Treliving should pencil-in Tkachuk to achieve his full $850,000 this season.

That shows you how tough it is to actually earn bonus money for an entry-level player. If Foo's bonuses do become a factor, it will be a good problem for the Flames to have.

Good point. With a 186 day long season, every day that Foo is on the roster carries a cap hit of $4,973.12. Every day Klimchuk is on the roster will carry a cap hit of $3,763.44. That difference of $1,209.68 per day could be a difference maker.

It seems counterintuitive, but signing a smaller contract might actually equal more money (and a better chance of seeing NHL action) for Klimchuk than a larger contract would.

I'm not exactly sure that he's gotten his chance yet, but at the same time, yes? Playing 7 mins in 1 NHL game didn't really get him a chance to even catch his breath, let alone settle in. But he is an aging prospect and there seem to be no shortage of prospects moving past him on the depth chart, and the first full looking forward roster on the big club in years. Most of them locked down for the next few years or more. Time is slipping away. If he gets his shot this year, he had better make the most of it, because there is no telling if he will get another.

No, it was definitely right in the first place. Comes up from Stockton, parachuted into a game, and sent back to Stockton the next day. In there somewhere was the excitement of his first NHL game infront of ~19k fans. A real whirwhind.

Wow! Never knew that. I recall at the time he was called "The Invisible Man" in a defensive context.

When Kent was on he was literally one of the best to ever play. Big, smooth skater, best hands in franchise history. Could play any forward position.

Then the second period would roll around and he'd sit back and relax, knowing he'd already put three points up in the first. That was the enigma that was Nilsson.

My favorite story was where he scored a hat trick in the first period and it was a game where he generated a good scoring chance every shift. Badger Bob was encouraging him to keep pressing and that the NHL record was 6 goals in a game. Nilsson responded by saying "no thanks, you'd expect me to do that every game". When his play the next period was consistent with his statements, Badger Bob benched him out of frustration.

The first part was why he got the nickname. The second part was what fans later said later about his nickname - it wasn't why he got it in the first place. He was also close to a PPG in the POs, so he didn't exactly disappear then.

Frankly, I think his lack of effort is overblown. In large part it was fans saying "why aren't you scoring every shift" instead of realizing his limitations (he wasn't physical, he wasn't gritty).
