Another couple good options are Sante Fe, Albuquerque and Denver. Sante Fe has a lot of cool stuff to see in the area of historical significance and lots of interesting art.

A lot of good ones mentioned. This is how I'd rank it:
1. San Diego
2. Austin/San Antonio (only an hour away and also great)
3. Portland, Oregon
4. Nashville
5. Kansas City

San Francisco is super fun. Plenty to see and do, along with great restaurants. Alcatraz is a must see.
Boston, Seattle, Portland, and San Diego are all great as well.

Chicago is an absolute blast, I cannot recommend it enough. Flight is extremely reasonable at 3.5 hours (often arrives faster in my experience) and the city has enough to do/see for a handful of trips, particularly in May.

I would recommend Tampa Bay purely because you will probably be able to catch games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Flames and Lightning.

Boston is my favorite city in the US. The history and the quaintness of the the area is awesome.
Nashville is pretty sweet too.

Wouldn't mind catching a baseball game, want some good bars/restaurants and something to do/see.
I have been focusing my search on a few US cities like Boston, Chicago and New Orleans but am open to ideas.
Price isn't the primary concern but don't want to go somewhere crazy expensive or spend 12 hours in an airport each way.

For a long weekend only and assuming you are flying from Calgary, I would stick to the west coast and preferably direct flights. It will give you a lot more time to enjoy the destination city. Flying to the east coast can kill a good chunk of the day in travel.
San Fran is great and one of my favorite US cities to visit. Its got baseball, great restaurants and bars, and tons of stuff to see and do. Seattle is great as well and youd have more than enough to see and do for a long weekend.

My vote would be for Chicago, with Seattle in second place (Seattle's closer and cheaper, but you said price wasn't a primary concern). I actually did Chicago on the May long weekend five years ago. Lots to see and do, food, shopping, and the Cubs and/or White Sox. California's not bad either (LA, SF, SD), but more of a summer destination in my opinion.

Cool choices. Can you elaborate why?

For a weekend destination, I would choose LA (Beach Cities, not downtown) or Seattle.

The risk of Seattle for a weekend is that it rains the entire time. But even then there are plenty of cool indoor things to do. The POP museum is fantastic.

There are a lot of good choices. Ones that I liked:
- Seattle
- San Francisco
- San Diego
- Denver
- San Antonio
- Dallas
I believe other than San Antonio, each of those have direct flights with Calgary.
I'd definitely like to do more exploring on the east coast, but as others have mentioned, that might be a bit ambitious for a weekend. Right off the hop you lose the 2 hours for time zones and then if you're connecting somewhere, you may lose a whole day for traveling.

Back in 2010, my brother and I managed to see all 4 major sports in one weekend in Dallas. Mavs game on Friday night, Stars game Saturday night, Cowboys game Sunday morning, Rangers in the World Series later that night. Awesome weekend!

I was going to suggest this as well. Both cool in their own way and very close together.
