In terms of fan service, if Ahsoka is acknowledged in any way, I will be pretty gleeful.
I thought Solo was fine. Not good, but not bad.

Solo was ok, but whatever character Alden Ehrenreich was playing, it wasn't Han Solo.

My hot Star Wars take is that Rogue One is the best out of ALL the movies.

"Who are your people?"
"I don't have people. I'm alone."
"hmm, in other words you are...Solo!"
this by itself drops that movie by a full letter grade or more.

Yeah, Solo was an alright movie but it falls in to that dumb prequel trap of trying to explain all the stuff you like about them for no reason.
Why is his name Han Solo? How did he meet Chewbacca? Hey, here's how he got his cool gun? How does he know Lando? How does he get the Millenium Falcon? What the heck is the Kessel run?
The problem is, a lot of this stuff is cooler without knowing the details, and explaining it (especially in a dumb campy way like your example above) retroactively makes the original thing worse and less cool.

ANH is very boring though. It is amazing how boring movies used to be.

The meeting with Chewbacca, knowing Lando, the Falcon, and the Kessel run were all super cool.

Liked the start, but it quickly descended into cheesy CGI action sequences that were way too long. If I'm going to see a pure CGI action movie, there are better universes to see it in, than Star Wars. Also, the tone of Solo was so off, that it didn't even really feel like a Star Wars movie. I also didn't get any sense of chemistry from the actors.
I don't really buy into the "look there's x-wings, aliens, and blasters what else do you need from a Star Wars movie" train of thought. Inherent within that line of thought is that the standards for a Star Wars movie are even lower than a generic action movie, and the opposite is true.
Basically, if I'm going to shut my mind off for 2 hours and watch a purely effects driven movie, there are much better options out there than Solo. I'd rate solo as a generic B level action movie, of which Hollywood produces dozens every year, and Solo doesn't have any character to redeem it.

I liked Solo a lot more than I was expecting. I probably would have liked it more if I could have seen wtf was happening on the screen. DP was apparently someone raised in a cave who was hypersensitive to light.

The chewy-han origin, the droid and lando made Solo watchable and fun. The humour hit the best of any of the new films. Corelia was cool. Only the train heist sequence really felt jarringly overlong and out of place.
I will say that Ehrenreich while he got the mannerisms down for Han at least adequately well, I think he and the screenwriters missed the mark by a fair bit on Han Solo's personality. I highly doubt a younger Han would be less selfish and give that much of a #### about a character like Clarke's. Realistically I think he would be much more arrogant and carefree. I mean did they study Han at the start of ANH? Very different guy.

There were some very good elements in Solo that I liked.
I liked how he joined the Imperial Military and he was going to be a pilot, and then ended up in the Imperial Army in Infantry on the a$$ end of the galaxy. I also thought it was cool that we actually saw the Imperial Army instead of the constant flow of Storm Troopers. The Army looked like a ratty poorly trained and equipped butt end of the Empire.
I did like the interchanges between Solo and Chewie and Solo and Lando.
The action sequences and visual effects I thought were good.

The end of Solo was a lot of garbage. The double-double cross stuff was eye-rolly.

Solo's main issue is that released while the odor of TLJ was still ripe.

I Cant wait for this one. I have been saying for years that Ray is in fact a clone, it was almost a give away in the last movie when she saw nothing but her self when she wanted to know who her family is.
My take is she was created by Darth Sidious, as was Anakin Skywalker and in the end Ray will kill her self to stop Darth Sidious from being able to take a human form..
But yeah a few more days to see how wrong i am. I cant wait!

Was listening to some reaction from random people on CBC radio on the way home about whether they are interested at all in this latest instalment. Doesn’t seem like a lot of the people are keen on it.
