Default Advanced Excel Q

I'm trying to figure out how to created banded rows in a pivot table in Excel 2003.
It's easy to do in 2007, but alas, work doesn't have that.
Anyone have any ideas?
The usual conditional formatting method used for regular worksheets doesn't work.

try format>>>autoformat in the drop down menus
